3 - Or do you just gradually provide texts with a bigger variety of sounds/letter combinations over say, a term, and ideally students’ decoding skills will keep up with this? Appreciate people’s thoughts 🙂

2 - At what point do you begin to move students away from reading strictly decodable texts and onto more ‘regular’ (or less phonically controlled) texts? Is there a certain set of prerequisite skills you’d want to see a student demonstrating?

Nearly every child I work with in a high school setting has gone through Reading Recovery and THRASS. None of them are competent readers. We use Corrective Reading and the change in their ability to decode, and then comprehend is amazing. Speed and accuracy always improves.
