Atheists sometimes tell me I have to choose between God and science.
I do not, and neither do you.
There is nothing anti-scientific about the idea that an all-powerful, transcendent super-intelligence created the universe and wrote its laws.
In fact, it's far more believable to me that this is the explanation for our lawful, intelligible universe than the story I was expected to believe as an atheist - that the universe "just is" or that it's somehow lawful and intelligible despite having no intelligence or will behind it.
But what about the big bang? Is that a problem for a Bible-believing Christian?
Not at all.
Leave aside the age issue - which is frankly the least explosive part of all this - and consider how modern science has caught up with the Genesis narrative in the last 100 years. Modern science has figured out that the universe isn't eternal, as people thought for thousands of years, but suddenly came into being a finite time ago just as Genesis 1:1 describes.
I do not have to give up God to believe that. In fact, as a scientist, it's the only way I can make sense of why the universe exists at all and is the way it is.
Don't let anyone tell you that you have to choose between God's two books - the Bible and his creation. They are wonderfully compatible.

I’ve been seeing this for years:
Me: here’s an argument demonstrating that there’s a necessary being
Atheist: but that doesn’t prove the being is conscious
Me: here’s an argument demonstrating the necessary being is conscious
Atheist: but that doesn’t prove the necessary being is perfect
Me: here’s an argument demonstrating the necessary being is perfect
Atheist: but that doesn’t prove it’s the God of Christianity
Me: here’s an argument demonstrating Christianity is true
Atheist: but that doesn’t prove your denomination is true
👆this is called “moving the goalposts.” Just because I happen to be a Christian, that doesn’t mean every single argument I make proves my entire theology. Some arguments demonstrate some things, and some arguments demonstrate other specific things.
Lawyers do the same thing. They use one argument to demonstrate motive, then they use another argument to demonstrate the suspect was able to commit the crime, then another argument for why it’s likely they did commit the crime, etc.
Different arguments for different things, it’s not that complicated.
Can't convince me this wasn't intentionally malicious.
For anyone curious about what it actually looked like to kill a generation of functioning cars, here’s an actual video from 2009 and brief explanation:
The dealer first replaces the oil with sodium silicate solution. It’s a clear-ish liquid that crystallizes under extreme heat. As the engine warms up the solution begins to form small abrasive crystals in the oil system that shred the bearing and score the cylinder walls.
Within seconds of starting the car you can see smoke billowing from the exhaust, this is the crystals scratching the cylinder walls and leaving small grooves for oil and solution to leak past into the combustion chamber and ignite/evaporate, producing the white smoke.
Pretty soon the entire crankcase is full of crystals and freshly shredded metal flakes, the engine seizes. It took about 40 seconds in this video. Some engines reportedly lasted up to 7 minutes, but all were destroyed. That strikes me as sort of sad in a way, like watching a great warrior slowly lose a heroic last stand.
Now, this is the part that gets insanely wasteful. These cars were sent to federally approved recycling facilities where they had 180 days to sell the non-engine parts before they were required to prove that they had shred the entire thing into scrap steel.
But, in talking to a guy who ran one such facility at the time, he typically just sent them straight to the crusher. The timeframes allotted weren’t long enough to dismantle all of the cars, and even if you could, the marginal prices of the parts was greatly diminished. You cannot sell 1000 transmissions when only 50 went bad that year, they became worthless.
So just like that, in order to increase prosperity and save the environment, 677,000 entire running cars and trucks were turned directly into rebar worth a few cents per pound.
The entire Obama administration was like a chapter out of atlas shrugged.
Every once in a while you come across a post that grabs the rusty knife in your chest,
tells you exactly where it is and why it's there,
twists it just exactly the right amount,
and then stares you in the face; an infuriating taunt for not knowing how to deal with the blade.
Went to church.
Went to lunch.
Went to 7/11.

I miss Stompies 😔
Replying to @saterienne_
Not to be overdramatic, but when bungie nerfed stompies for the final time it legitimately felt like they had cut off one of my arms. I lost all motivation to play the game, and I probably should have quit to be completely honest.
I get what you're talking about, but stompies were such an integral part to the hunter playstyle that it feels less like an 'era' and more like the way Hunter was supposed to play. The class is inherently flawed in a seemingly irreparable way now.
Sorry for the essay. I am... still bitter.
Something something "insufficient to govern anything beyond a self-governing, free, Christian people" o algo
Everyone thinks it's Article V allowing the Constitution to be amended, but in reality it's Article III.
Theoretically, nothing stops a party with a majority in Congress and the White House from abolishing all lower courts, establishing new courts in their place, doubling the size of the Supreme Court, and, in doing so, gaining absolute control over the Judiciary at all levels of government and thus eliminating any opposition to whatever policies they'd like to impose.
You want to sue Congress when it grants sweeping powers to the President? The lower courts don't even stay the law.
You appeal to the packed Supreme Court? They refuse to hear the case.
You complain that the President and Congress have overstayed their term in office? The courts rule that the Constitution does not mandate Federal elections every two years during a state of emergency.
You take to the streets and protest? The President declares a state of rebellion and Congress suspends habeas corpus.
Any political party sufficiently united in its desire to completely destroy the political system, and having obtained even the slimmest majorities in both the legislative and executive branches, can essentially overthrow any republican system of government.
All of this is procedurally allowed. There is no constitutional order, including our own, that can ultimately guarantee its own continuation through constitutional procedures alone.
I have this fantasy of running solos in Marathon with nothing but white gear and just bombing at people the whole time, but then I remember white heals take forever to do literally nothing and the game punishes you in every way possible for trying to play aggressive so I go back to destiny 2 and pop my golden gun and get frozen by a stasis warlock who has less kills on his gun every match than I have kills in real life and then I log off and kind of stare at the ceiling before going back to editing and reading light novels.
