I have one day off with my son at school and how did I spend my morning? Editing! Here's one second from the past decade of every season of TV, pilot, movie, commercial, or whatever that I can remember editing and have a copy of.

DISAPPOINTED! Can anyone read this? I'm not a Variety VIP+ subscriber, but it doesn't sound good.

Hollywood Basic Bargaining Update: Individual Local Negotiations with AMPTP begin Following a caucus week, talks entered a new phase where each of IATSE’s 13 West Coast Studio Locals (WCSL) individually negotiate their Locals’ craft specific issues with the studios. This phase of the process is expected to last from March 18 to April 26.   In an effort to ensure each of these 13 local unions has sufficient time to negotiate with the AMPTP ahead of the resumption of the Hollywood Basic Agreement General Negotiations and the start of the IATSE-AMPTP Area Standards Agreement Negotiations, two locals will negotiate simultaneously at any given time.   On Monday March 18th, the International Cinematographer’s Guild (IATSE Local 600) and the Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) each began their individual negotiations with the studios. The Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700) and IATSE Local 729 are expected to begin their negotiations with the AMPTP later in the week. IATSE International Vice President Mike Miller commented,  “The work that the Locals did to prepare each of their Negotiating Committees, which included town hall meetings, member surveys, bargaining trainings and one-on-one conversations, is unprecedented. The process identified clear priorities and helped develop the proposals that the Locals’ members want addressed by the employers.”   IATSE's negotiations have generated a historic level of solidarity in the United States and abroad. On March 3, a joint ‘Many Crafts, One Fight’ rally in Los Angeles saw thousands of union members across the Hollywood labor movement unite in support of behind-the-scenes workers. During the Oscars telecast March 10, a salute to the negotiations of the behind-the-scenes unions kicked off the show. Finally, on March 14, UNI Global Union, which represents 20 million service workers worldwide in 150 countries, including 500,000 workers in over 100 unions and guilds in the media, entertainment and arts sector, issued a statement of support for IATSE's ongoing negotiations.

I was on a social media hiatus, but I'm breaking my sobriety to say I back our @MPEG700 and @IATSE bargaining teams pushing for a fair contract! #ManyCraftsOneFight #IAsolidarity

after the WGA deal we’ve tried to listen, reflect and reexamine how we approach our negotiations with talent. so coming from this more sober and thoughtful place, we’ve decided to make SAG seem unreasonable in the trades, say we don’t want to talk anymore, and see if they’ll fold

If you're an old Hartley fan or a new one who just discovered him on Criterion, now's your chance to help fund his next movie. I first read this script several years ago and it was great then, and it's great now. kickstarter.com/projects/260…
Wow!!! I edited 3 of these films and did HD restorations of like 4 or 5 others. And they're going to be on Criterion Channel!!!! I think I might make an on-screen appearance in 1 or 2 of the shorts too. This is a great opportunity to check in on Hal Hartley's films.

I love Schoonmaker's work, and it's always good to talk about the power of editing, but you don't get to do any of that cool stuff without a director willing to go along with or encourage it.
So much of Scorsese’s style comes from Schoonmaker. That dancing, jabbing rhythm. I always wonder if she’s always looking to chop things up to stop them from being too perfect. Sometimes she’ll cut right into the middle of a beautiful smooth pan and it makes you flinch a little.

Editors Guild president Alan Heim did some of the best editing of all time with Bob Fosse, but you don't get to use the same level of experimentation and style in the Dennis The Menace movie because you have different expectations from your employers.

Also, I saw Killers of the Flower Moon on Saturday and it's fantastic. Marty and Thelma were there, and they both speak so intelligently about filmmaking, it's worth sitting through the embarrassment I have watching Q&As.

It was weird though because Scorsese didn't talk about Marvel movies at all. I was under the impression he was very interested in sharing his opinion of them.

So happy and excited for the writers, and I love my job and the episodes I left in limbo all those months ago, and I am ready to start making money again, but also: please don't make me go back to work!

The WGA reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. Today, our Negotiating Committee, WGAW Board, and WGAE Council all voted unanimously to recommend the agreement. The strike ends at 12:01 am. Check out our deal at wgacontract2023.org/deal. #WGAStrong
