New in @ForeignAffairs: Will Freeman draws on 2026 #AmericasBarometer data to examine Cuba’s deepening economic and institutional crisis.
This is the first AmericasBarometer round to include Cuba, offering new insight into public opinion on the island.
“Repression is the only thing the Cuban state still does well,” writes @WillGFreeman. “This owes less to any apparent abundance of resources than to the leadership’s entirely rational unity.”

Cuba’s future was debated intensely at the UN General Assembly, with fiery comments from Washington and Havana dominating the exchange.
Each camp claims to speak for a Cuban public that has rarely been asked what it wants. Meanwhile, the island is enduring its biggest economic crisis since independence, as crippling fuel shortages overlap with a historic collapse of an already derelict public infrastructure.

The Seligson Prize is awarded annually by @LAPOP_Lab to recognize outstanding scholarship using AmericasBarometer data.
The prize honors the legacy of the late Mitchell A. Seligson, founder of LAPOP and a pioneer in the study of public opinion in Latin America.
