At @LBDAgov , our sunflower project is demonstrating how best agricultural practices, value addition and farmer support can unlock a commercially viable value chain.
We plan to scale to 20,000 acres through contracting and supporting farmers across the Lake Region, integrating production, aggregation, processing and edible oil production.
The goal: higher farmer incomes, jobs, local value addition and reduced reliance on imported edible oils.

Of the 30-kilometre dyke project being implemented in Nyando Constituency through the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) to mitigate perennial flooding, 14 kilometres have already been completed.
The 2026/27 National Budget has allocated additional funding for the construction of a further 10 kilometres, bringing the project closer to full completion.
In addition, the government, through the National Infrastructure Fund, has set aside resources for the construction of 50 mega dams across the country. Two of these dams will be located in Nyando, helping to provide a long-term solution to flooding while enhancing water storage for domestic use, irrigation and other socio-economic activities.
