Thirty days have passed since the enforced disappearance of journalist Mustafa Khalifa Al-Sheikh (38) and his brother Mohammed (41), following their arbitrary arrest from their home in Ghat on 22 September 2026 by armed men affiliated with the Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF). Their arrest was linked to their brother Bashir Al-Sheikh’s opposition to the authorities in eastern Libya and his media work within the so-called “Southern Liberation Operations Room”, or “SLOR”.
Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) holds the LAAF responsible for the brothers’ safety and reiterates its calls for the immediate disclosure of their fate and whereabouts, access to their family and lawyers, and their immediate and unconditional release.

Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) has received an official identifier in the global Research Organization Registry (ROR), becoming the first Libyan human rights organisation registered in the registry.
The identifier helps link LCW’s reports and publications across research and academic platforms and databases, making them easier to find and cite. It also helps researchers and others interested in Libya identify LCW’s work.
This follows years of sustained work by LCW to document human rights violations in Libya and produce reports and publications based on an independent documentation and verification methodology, despite the risks facing human rights work and limited resources.
