Lucy deserves more than an upgraded enclosure and a PR campaign.
She deserves a life built around her dignity, physical welfare, and needs ~ including serious consideration for sanctuary relocation.
Show us transparent plans! 🐘💔 #FreeLucy
@YEGMayorOffice
Six feet of depth doesn't mean a therapeutic environment. Where is the room for Lucy to swim, float, stretch, and submerge?
Water needs to support her weight and joints, depth alone tells us nothing without actual dimensions & usable swimming area. #ElephantWelfare @AndrewKnack
Not good enough!!! 💔 Edmonton Valley Zoo’s proposed pool for Lucy is nowhere near enough for an elephant who has spent nearly 50 years in captivity without a proper pool.
A 645 sq ft pool is not a substitute for a true therapeutic environment.

Lucy deserves more than water to stand in, she deserves dignity, space, and a life designed around her welfare.
An upgraded enclosure can't erase decades of isolation.
Edmonton Valley Zoo, prioritize sanctuary relocation! 💔🐘 #SanctuaryForLucy @AndrewKnack
Where are the hydrotherapy jets for Lucy⁉️
🐘 Facilities like Wildlife SOS use 21 high-pressure jets to support foot and joint health for elephants. Forwarding a video isn't a commitment!
Edmonton Valley Zoo must provide transparent plans, not PR announcements. #LucyTheElephant
Not good enough! 💔
The Edmonton Valley Zoo’s proposed "aquatic amenity" for Lucy is only 645 sq ft.
Calling a small pool an aquatic amenity doesn’t make it fit for an 🐘who has spent nearly 50 years in captivity.
Lucy needs space to submerge, float, and move freely! 🐘 #FreeLucy
Want to be Lucy's voice? 📢 Head over to leapforlucy.com to see how you can email Edmonton City Council and demand an independent medical assessment. Together, we can pressure leadership to choose compassion over captivity! @CityofEdmonton #RetireLucy
Lucy has given her entire life to entertaining crowds from a tiny enclosure. Now in her senior years, she deserves to feel real grass under her feet and hear the rumble of another elephant. Let's give her the retirement she earned before time runs out. #RetireLucy @AndrewKnack 💜
How can you ignore @CityofEdmonton
Female 🐘are built for family, herds, & lifelong bonds.
Yet Lucy has spent decades in total isolation at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
A lone existence in a concrete enclosure is psychological torture. 🐘 need other 🐘. #RetireLucy 🐘💔
While 🇨🇦 share in the warmth of community Lucy stands as the zoo’s final 🐘having lived without the essential companionship of a herd for nearly 20 years since her last companion was transferred out.
She is🔒in a zoo bound to the very concrete walls that have shaped her captivity
.@edmontonjournal repeated the old EVZ claim that Lucy "prefers humans over other elephants."
No qualified 🐘 expert on earth agrees with this unnatural notion. 🛑 using outdated excuses to justify her inappropriate captivity. @AndrewKnack kindness wins 🗳️ #retireLucy
The zoo claims Lucy's enclosure will "triple in size" to nearly 70,000 sq ft. But looking closely at the actual blueprints and diagrams, it is incredibly hard to see anything close to triple the size. Edmonton taxpayers deserve transparency, not marketing spin. #FreeLucy
Funny how the Edmonton Journal article drops right after we emailed the zoo demanding updates on the promised expansion. The timing is interesting, but public relations articles won't stop us from holding them accountable. @andrewKnack @edmonton_anne come on #RetireLucy
In 2021, the zoo’s own consultant recommended a therapy pool to relieve #Lucy’s severe foot & joint disease.
Director Gary Dewar continually evades the 🙋offering vague terms like water amenity.
What does that even mean?
Lucy weighs 1000 of pounds.
She needs a #sanctuary pool.
A bigger enclosure by 2027 doesn’t fix the immediate pain Lucy is in right now.
The @edmontonjournal article completely ignores the most critical expert recommendation: a heated indoor hydrotherapy pool.
#FreeLucy #EdmontonValleyZoo
Can she move ⁉️YES she can ‼️
🙏 contact Mayor Andrew Knack & urge the City of Edmonton to accept LEAP's recent proposal to bring in a team of 6 experts to evaluate Lucy to determine if she can be safely transported to sanctuary.
This UNIQUE team consists of veterinarians & experts in transportation of 🐘👇
Please continue to keep the pressure on.
After the horrible winter we just endured in Edmonton, we want to do everything in our power to prevent Lucy from living through another winter here.
#RetireLucy 💜
1/ As promised here is our update to our recent work with City Council. We want to share our efforts that started after the new Council was elected in the fall of 2025. With some newly elected officials, we were cautiously hopeful that we could get enough members on board.
