Please share: LGSBA seeks attorneys who can help law grads with issues related to this year's bar exam. We have hundreds of law grad members (and counting) graduating from nearly 100 law schools and applying to bars in over 35 states--all needing legal help. More info in thread.

Highly misleading, for reasons others have explained. Also, most law grads will sacrifice mental/physical/financial health if their career requires. The question shouldn't be 'are scores average?' or 'is the pass rate similar?' it should be 'what undue sacrifices were made?'

Thank you @btannebaum for this article!
bit.ly/2EJdzC0 The bar exam is meaningless. It’s important only because it’s been a part of our profession — in various ways — forever. It’s one of those things we do because we’ve (mostly) always done it.

These are people who did everything we asked them to do. They studied hard for 3+ years, they gained practical experience in clinics and internships, and they treated their colleagues with respect. And what does the profession do in return? 1/2

This is 100% accurate. In our experience, the way Courts and BLEs have conducted themselves goes against everything we were taught in legal writing classes.
The failure to give fact-driven arguments to support the need for the bar exam, and to approach in good faith the fact-driven arguments we present, has been so frustrating about this. #DiplomaPrivilege advocates are arguing like lawyers, Courts and BLEs are not. Is the deal off?

Does anyone else find it strange that law grad bar applicants had to be the ones to conduct a survey like this? And state bars/bar examiners never thought to ask anyone these kinds of questions? Almost makes it seem as if they don't even care, right?
Dear esteemed Bar Associations of America (cc'd): We're wondering if you've seen our survey, and if you'd consider conducting your own similar surveys, to better assess 1) the 2020 bar exam's impact on applicants, and 2) your members' thoughts on solutions tiny.cc/bttmsz

At the very least, shouldn't Supreme Courts give diploma privilege to in-state law grads? How can you allow people to graduate from a law school in your state, then tell them they haven't shown minimal competence? Shouldn't this be true any year, but especially 2020 given COVID?

Please RT: 81.9% of bar applicant respondents say a proctored online exam presents hardship. We'd like to conduct a survey to help determine what these hardships are. If you're a bar applicant scheduled to take a proctored online bar exam, what are some hardships presented?

This is horrible. Johnny, we're so sorry you're dealing w this. If BLEs are willing to subject examinees to this, they should have a high burden of proving that bar exams actually protect the public from "bad" lawyers. So far, no BLE I've seen has even shown rational basis.

From the little bit I know about Johnny, I feel confident saying he will be a GREAT lawyer. The fact that he was essentially forced to withdraw is a shame because justice gaps are real in every state, and many indigent people could benefit from advocates like Johnny.

Many heartbreaking responses to this q. FWIW, even w these advantages I'M STILL struggling w bar prep. COVID disrupted my life so immensely I'm not sure I can pass my Sept. exam. If I'm in this position, many others w less advantage must be as well. We need diploma privilege.
I (Jason, one of our co-chairs), am future Biglaw. My firm paid for all bar prep materials AND advanced me $10k to cover my bills while I study. People who aren't so privileged: HOW DO YOU POSSIBLY PREPARE FOR THE EXAM PROPERLY???

And if you follow @BarExamSurvey, you will see that my story is not at all extraordinary this year. Many people are dealing w similar things. Administering a bar exam during a pandemic is not a fair measure of competency. We need diploma privilege.

The ONLY good argument for continuing w a bar exam is that it protects the public. However, I've seen BLEs put forth ZERO evidence that bar exams actually protect the public. I've only seen evidence to the contrary. See e.g. abovethelaw.com/2020/08/when…
