California is home to one of the nation’s largest Nicaraguan communities. Many came here seeking freedoms denied under authoritarian rule, and many still worry daily about loved ones living under this regime. Today, we stand with them.
As Co-Chair of the California Hispanic Legislative Caucus, which was built on the belief that every community deserves a voice in its own future, I know these fears are not abstract - they’re shared by families across our state.
Democracy, free speech, and the rule of law are never guaranteed; they must be defended. I stand with the Nicaraguan people’s right to free and fair elections, and call on leaders at every level to hold the Ortega regime accountable.
