An Oregon State freshman has nine touchdown catches in five games. The last two players to start a major college career like that were Randy Moss and Michael Crabtree. He had exactly one scholarship offer. His name is Jesse Legree and he plays for the Oregon State Beavers. Tonight against the Colorado State Rams he caught five passes for over 150 yards and three touchdowns. They went for 50 yards, 38 yards and 52 yards. He sat most of the second half because the game was over. Oregon State won 56 to 26. Here is the stat that got everybody's attention. The last three players with nine or more touchdown catches through their first five games at college football's top level are Jesse Legree in 2026, Michael Crabtree at Texas Tech in 2007, and Randy Moss at Marshall in 1997. That is the whole list. Crabtree caught 22 touchdowns that year, became the first freshman ever to win the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in the country, and went tenth overall in the NFL draft. Moss caught 26 that year for the Marshall Thundering Herd, finished fourth in the Heisman voting, and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now understand who the third name is. Legree is listed at 5-foot-10 and 172 pounds. He went to St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He spent most of high school at defensive back and did not move to receiver until his senior year. Not one school in America offered him a scholarship to play receiver. Oregon State offered him anyway, and nobody else offered him anything. A program on the other side of the country, in a town he had never heard of. He enrolled early, in January, and went to work. Five games in, he is second in the country in receiving yards, tied for first in the country in touchdown catches, and averaging 26.6 yards every time he catches the ball. He has gone over 100 yards in all five games. That ties the Oregon State record, shared by Mike Hass and Brandin Cooks. He has won Pac-12 Freshman of the Week four straight times. Nobody in the history of the conference has ever done that. His quarterback Braden Atkinson on what it is like to throw to him: "You give him the ball and he'll make three, four, five people miss. All I have to do is give him a five-yard pass and he gives me 75 yards in the stats." Here is the part nobody will put on a graphic. He wants to be a therapist when football is finished. Be honest about where this actually sits. It is five games. Colorado State and UTEP are not Ohio State. November has not happened yet. But a couple of weeks ago his head coach JaMarcus Shephard won the first game of his life as a head coach, and he said this: "Everybody needs to start paying attention. Because there's something going on here in Corvallis." Nine touchdowns in five games. Randy Moss. Michael Crabtree. And the kid nobody wanted at receiver.

These 3 things need to happen if #Oregon is going to reach their goal of a National Championship this season: 1. Run blocking has to improve immensely 2. Safety play has to be significantly better especially in coverage 3. Dan needs to play the best players #GoDucks #FEBU

One thing I’ve learned in the last couple of days on Twitter, most USC fans don’t know what roughing the passer is 🤣

USC left the Pac12 to try to get away from Oregon. Just to continue to lose to them every year anyways. Truly incredible stuff! 🔥

Oregon star QB Dante Moore suffered a concussion last night vs. USC but, on a positive note, isn’t believed to have sustained any additional injuries, sources tell me and @chris_hummer for @CBSSports. Will go through concussion protocol but is expected back at some point.

Desman Stephens II has been at USC for 3 years. He just head-hunted Dante Moore and then taunted Oregon’s roster after he knocked Moore out. Then he laughed on the sideline and dapped up teammates. People are gonna see that as a reflection on the USC staff. They should.

Fresno State is awful. They will be near the bottom of the conference. I have no idea what you've seen from them that has you putting them at 2.
