The hubris after winning one election is insane. Past β€œright-wing” govts succeeded because they relied on heavy support from the centre. If you think Conservatives can just win by default because BC is β€œright-wing” you’ve made a fundamental miscalculation.
Geoff Russ: B.C. is a right wing province. The NDP was merely a chaotic interlude nationalpost.com/opinion/geo…

I feel like a revived BC Liberal is more likely to flop than succeed. People don’t necessarily want The Liberals, they want Mark Carney. If you can find a Mark Carney, then the New BC Liberals have potential. If not, their fate is probably more like the Van Liberals or CentreBC.
Following the very exciting election results on Saturday, please see my statement attached.

Eby can come across to a lot of people as a 'woke social justice academic' - and they just broadly assign 'socialism' to a whole ton of that. And as we've said, Eby's incompetence as a communicator meant he wasn't able to untangle that mess and carve out a different identity.

I think this is a preview for how the next four years are going to go. Doerkson himself will want to govern relatively moderate, but the pressure from the base to bring in big right-wing change will be immense and I don’t know if Doerkson will have the nerve to defy them.
This is false. Read his quote. CTV is making things up in an attempt to divide conservatives. The ideological, unscientific tanker ban that is arbitrarily applied to one region of the country and not others, has always been opposed by conservatives.

Dix and Farnworth would be good, but I’m kind of hoping for Ma here. She’s someone I could see being a major contender for leadership in the future, I’m curious to see how well she can play the role of opposition leader.

β€œIf turnout was similar to 2024 the NDP would have won” Pure conjecture. IMO it’s more likely that the demographic which votes the most (boomers) liked Doerkson better which is why lower turnout didn’t sink CPBC vote totals significantly compared to 2024.
Replying to @LLCBCer
One riding isn’t representative of the whole picture. If turnout was similar to 2024 the NDP would’ve gotten near a majority if not a majority. But the real issue is that people weren’t motivated to vote for them and that includes non voters AND now conservative voters

Is this also conjecture? Yeah, but why is this hypothesis any less than yours?

I got ratioed for this, but my instincts were absolutely correct here. Eby at least tried to come off as moderate in β€˜24 and it played with off with relatively decent results in the wealthy parts of Metro Vancouver. Eby β€˜26 didn’t bother and it completely reversed those gains.
I honestly think it was a mistake for Eby to go so left. Elections are won in the centre. Let the Greens be the leftist party.

This is why I don’t buy the NDP loss was a turnout issue, these results in the suburbs are terrible! β€œBut Langley is a Conservative stronghold.” Horgan won this seat by 15 in 2020! The NDP can win back voters from the Conservatives if we have the right message.

No. We need to move past this analysis. Turnout was lower because normies didn’t care about the election. The Conservatives ran the better campaign and the vote totals are a reflection of that. NDP screwups only made the loss worse than it otherwise would’ve been.
Very much a β€œthe conservatives didn’t win this, the NDP lost it” election. What a fuck up.

I’ve been getting a lot of shit, but I’m not backing down here. I am a John Horgan New Democrat. I don’t want to make the BCNDP β€œconservative,” I want the party to be pragmatically centre-left. The activist base has no interest in offering this, so I oppose them.

Huge misread of the electorate. Turnout was lower because normies didn’t care about the election. It affected the Conservatives the least because they did the better job of persuading the available pool of voters.
Replying to @LLCBCer @CaelemSG
the number of votes the conservatives got really didn’t change all that much. the bigger issue is that NDP voters didn’t show up.

Presuming that the 200k less NDP voters are all woke leftists dissatisfied with Eby’s moderation is want to you want to believe. But in reality, there mostly people who don’t care much about politics and didn’t bother to vote.

β€œBrad West or bust” never said that. In all likelihood I will vote BC NDP again unless they nominate an explicit socialist. I want to vote for someone who’s not going to double down on the same mistakes which cost us this election. The left simply isn’t offering that.
Replying to @LLCBCer
Then maybe don’t act like you know best by trying to shove this β€œBrad West or bust” sentiment onto us. That is a one-way ticket to alienating yourself among the party faithful who volunteer for the party each & every election.

From 2020 to 2026 the BC NDP went from 13/17 of seats in Richmond/Delta/Surrey/Langley to 0/19. Thats a huge realignment and represents the majority of the change that happened in that period. If the NDP can't compete south of the Fraser River they may as well give up. #bcpoli

I am a member and I have donated countless times to the BC NDP. Its my party as much as it is yours. Whoever becomes leader we ALL need to back regardless of which wing of the party they represent. You could choose a far left leader and Id STILL vote NDP because stopping the cons is more important
β€œhijacking” it’s our party, we’re the ones paying for it. are you even a member? i am, and ill be voting for a rose caucus leader. bread and butter left populism, public industries, and strong unions. that’s what they need to win and that’s what the people need to thrive.

β€œIt’s not the Liberal Party” well the BC NDP hasn’t been the Avi Lewis NDP since I’ve been alive either. I’ve been a loyal BCNDP voter since I’ve been old enough to vote. I’m not your damn enemy and I don’t like being treated as such!
Replying to @CaelemSG @LLCBCer
This isnt the liberal party either and you should get over that.

Why do socialists think they own the BC NDP? The NDP hasn’t been meaningfully socialist for generations and like 60% of their voters are fed Libs. What do they think will happen if they tell Liberals they aren’t welcome? It will collapse the party!

If the NDP decide liberals aren’t welcome, then we will join a party which accepts us and the NDP can get 5% of the vote.
That isn't what the NDP is for. Go join CentreBC or something.

What do you have me tell a Surrey mom who’s concerned about her children seeing drug consumption in public? β€œActually, you’ve been tricked by right-wing propaganda.” If we do this, we are not winning seats in Surrey for a generation.
It's almost like the past 2-6 years of unchecked right wing propaganda affected perception of the politicians in power. When the government is bad at messaging, the opposition message thrives. And neoliberals are atrocious at messaging.
