Film study pays off. Baker recognizes the Cover 2 man and probably knows from film they will play high/low safeties. Baker changes the play and moves the bunch. Wilkerson creates traffic and Mickens’ guy has no chance vs his speed. The OL handles the stunt and Baker has all day.

On this play, the TEs Finley and Bockler are lined up to the right of the FG support and drive their guys all the way to the left side of the upright, Burnette’s guy wanted no part of him, and look at that footwork from Cole (#79) as he pulls for the key block! Made it look easy.

Love this play. It’s a zone read w/ a WR screen. The pass attacks the left boundary and the run attacks the right boundary. If the read defender goes for the RB, which he does, the QB can walk in. Too much space to defend. Happy that defenses don’t attack our QBs more on these.

Tech rushing: Gap vs. zone blocking: Gap blocking: 5.5 ypc Zone blocking: 3.5 ypc Nationally, teams average almost the same rushing with gap and zone blocking schemes, although the FBS zone blocks 56% of the time (Tech zone blocks 45% of the time). A lot goes into these numbers, including opponent fronts, talent level, and running back instincts, but as a fan, there is not much that beats a pulling guard or tackle just annihilating a linebacker trying to fill the hole.
