What he did is called neonatal resuscitation, a life saving technique administered on a new born to help establish breathing & circulation when the baby fails to transition to newborn circulation normally. Saw the procedure several times as a medical student.
It involves 4 sequential steps which he followed. Started by drying, warming and stimulating the baby. Then he ventilated the baby using positive pressure ventilation (the mask he placed over the baby's face). The baby had started breathing at this point. The third step is to assess the heart rate to see if he would need to give chest compressions which he did. Luckily, he didn't have to do chest compressions.
He took a step further by checking the moro reflex ( when he did as if he wanted to drop the baby) and the rooting reflex of the baby to rule out any neurological problems.
This is a gentle reminder of how critical the first minutes of life can be👏🏾
