Lower has 15 points for the Sun Devils. It's pretty impressive as a freshman in a first collegiate career game! @Echo_Buttes

I asked Arizona State WBB head coach Molly Miller (@MollyMiller33) about Averie Lower's performance tonight.
She said, "We recruited her for a reason. I think she said it best. Shooters are going to shoot, and we encourage her to shoot. ... What's typical when you go from high school to college is the game speeds up, and so your shot trigger speeds up. She's got a quick trigger from the get-go, so she's able to transition from high school to college pretty easily with that quick release."

Choosing a coaching staff that believes in you and plays a style fits your game is so important ❤️
In the postgame, I asked @averie_lower about how @MollyMiller33 and the coaching staff have helped prepare her for the transition from high school to college throughout the past few months.
She said, "Every practice, they're telling me that I'm such a great shooter. Sometimes the best shooter in the gym, but DB [associate head coach Daniel Barber] sometimes likes to think that he is [the best shooter], but I mean they've given me so much confidence in that. They'll run plays for me every once in a while. I think that also gives me a lot of confidence [heading into the season]."

Last year's ASU women's hoops squad averaged 4.5 3-pointers made per game. Freshman Averie Lower hit five in her first game with the Devils on Monday. She also reminds me of a certain player from Coach Miller's GCU days.
On the men's side, last year's Saint Mary's team was second in the nation in FT%. They're looking to bring that trend to Tempe.
That and more in our Sun Devil notebook:

Someone needs to teach refs what a flop is and to stop calling fouls for those kids - some clubs are really exploiting it 🤢just play basketball.
Some of these kids are going to get a real wake up call in college
