As someone who have self learned english. I have asked for help when i was writting fanfictions, as French and english do not structure sentences the same way. 0 respond until I decided to stop writting. Some of us, would love to write correctly, but without feedback it's hard.
The same writers complaining are the same ones who get offended at basic writing advice on here.

The situation is a mess.
The AO3 situation is bringing to the surface a problem we’ve been sweeping under the rug for years: the double standards applied to fanfiction and fanart. An artist can draw whatever they want and post it on social media, benefiting from algorithmic favoritism because their content is quick and easy to consume (because people scroll through social media in a matter of seconds. If something takes even one extra minute of their time, they won’t bother) They can make money, to the point of building an actual career out of commissions (is that legal? Who knows… probably best not to look into it), and receive hundreds of comments or reposts because they deserve it and have worked hard to reach that level (absolutely true, and I agree. But so has anyone else who creates something. I didn’t learn how to sew cosplay costumes or write overnight. It took me just as much time and effort.) A fanfiction writer doesn’t get that. Social media platforms penalize: - External links to websites like AO3. - Walls of text (so no chapters published as posts) - Certain words or phrases. - Posts that don’t get immediately shared or commented on within the first few minutes after publication. (I could go on, but you get the point.) So, if we try to promote our work, we’re forced to commission artwork from artists (for a fee, see above) just to grab people’s attention with content that’s quick and easy to consume. If we dare to ask for comments or any kind of feedback (completely free and anonymous), we get insulted because “well, I don’t want to be OBLIGED to say what I think, or to give a like/kudos/heart/smoke signal or crop circle to that idiot who spent sleepless nights in front of a computer.” And if we ever dared to ask for even a single euro for our work (which nobody does, because we already know how that would end), just imagine the diplomatic incident that would cause. So why bother? And don’t come at me with the joy of creating. I’ve been writing novels on my computer for 25 years, and I’m perfectly happy leaving them right where they are rather than sharing them for free with ungrateful people. This whole situation is bringing one thing into focus: when all is said and done, AI isn’t really the problem.

I have see the writer/reader situation evolving for 20years. From the moment we where a community, to the point where some reader see themselves as consumers. They don't understand why fics writers are mad to be treated badly for the work they do for literally free. Because 1/5

If we wanted to be alone with our writting, we would have NEVER posted our fanfictions. How would you feel if some day, you would post something online, that you have put your heart and energy in it, no one talk with you, no one leave a kudo, and months, years later you see 4/5

As someone who have write fanfictions in the past, I have received a "we don't own you anything." The moment I have asked why I haved no commentary. (I needed feedback as I didn't haved a beta reader.) I have realized that, authors was seen as a netflix like but free.
yall are massive liars. writers are NOT mad for the vanity reasons that yall are desperate to claim (as it makes writers look bad so that yall can try to control the narrative). writers ARE mad about being excluded from communities & having their work reuploaded without consent.+

At least there was a commentary, I remember once, when I asked why people didn't commented on my fic (I was on Tumblr.) Someone in anon told. "We don't own you anything." I do needed some feedback as I didn't haved beta reader, and wanted some interactions, because we are in 1/2
I remember reading a fic recently and a commentor left a comment that basically went "OMG we talk about your fic in our discord all the time" and I was like....."you could just leave comments for the author???" The fic author is also part of the fandom experience 🙃

Fandom, I posted my fanfictions to been able to talk about the univers that I like. If I knowed I would have no one to talk to, why would i have posted my fanfictions? To let other feed from them and never know if someone have liked it? I would have never posted. 2/2
