On 18 October 1840 the French frigate La Belle Poule left St Helena with Napoleon’s body onboard. On 30 November the ship reached France. Jean-Baptiste-Henri Durand painted the departure from St Helena. The magnificent painting can be seen today in the Musée de l'Armée in Paris

10 years ago, on 20 October 2016, the teams from Enterprise St Helena and the tourist office came together to unveil the restored Bertrand's Cottage. It was 200th anniversary of the family moving in to be next to Napoleon in Longwood House.

210 years ago, on 20 October 1816, General Bertrand and family moved into a cottage on St Helena that had been built especially for them so they could be next to Napoleon in Longwood House. The cottage was fully restored 10 years ago by the St Helena Government.
