In 1991, while working on "Dangerous," Michael Jackson was looking for a rawer, more street-oriented sound than on his previous albums, and he thought of Slash, the guitarist from Guns N' Roses, to help him achieve it.
It took nearly a year to arrange the meeting. Slash first received a call from his manager letting him know that Michael wanted to get in touch, and months later they ended up having dinner together before getting down to work.
That night, Michael played him a rough demo of “Give In to Me” featuring only soft acoustic guitars, and Slash composed the solo and riffs on the spot that would ultimately define the song. He also recorded the introductory groove for “Black or White” during that session.
The collaboration didn’t end in the studio, Slash even took the stage alongside Michael during the “Dangerous World Tour,” including the video filmed in Munich for “Give In to Me.”
