Creatine may help women in perimenopause maintain more consistent sleep when combined with strength training. Women taking creatine for 6 weeks had sleep regularity scores 7.4 percentage points higher than the placebo group, reported fewer days of temperature sensitivity, and had greater brain oxygenation during a cognitive task. The protocol was 20 grams of creatine monohydrate daily for 5 days, followed by about 4.5 grams daily, with resistance training twice a week. These are encouraging early findings, particularly for sleep regularity in a population known to suffer from poor sleep quality! I love seeing more creatine research in women. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4292…

😭 Madison Square Garden employees who were surprised to see an email in their inbox offering a free New York Knicks championship ring were perhaps even more shocked to find out it was all a ruse ... part of a surprise security test to see if staffers would fall for a phishing scam.

In 1996 Metallica played a parking lot show in San Jose. On June 4, 1996, Metallica played a surprise show in the parking lot of the San Jose Tower Records at 871 Blossom Hill Road across from Oakridge Mall. After a morning announcement on local radio, news of the free show spread across the Bay Area, and once MTV News picked it up, it went worldwide. About ten thousand people showed up. The band planned to perform three flatbed truck shows that day to celebrate the release of their sixth album Load. One in San Jose, one in San Francisco, and one in Sacramento. Only two happened because San Francisco canceled at the last minute. Tower Records was chosen for all of the stops so fans could watch the show and then walk inside to buy the record. Tower Records manager Barbara Williamson, who has since passed away, later said that city officials told her no permit was needed. But one week after the performance, San Jose city attorney Joan Gallo held a news conference announcing that charges were being filed against Bill Graham Presents, Elektra Entertainment, and Tower Records. Offenses included disturbing the peace, failing to secure permits, and not obtaining approval for temporary street closures and amplified sound. The city also billed Tower Records seven thousand dollars for police, fire, and emergency medical services. “I think the destruction that was caused deliberately and purposefully to get publicity and take advantage of this community needs to be dealt with in a criminal form,” Gallo said at the time. Police were not happy either. Thousands of fans packed the parking lot across from Oakridge Mall, creating a traffic jam. Highway 87 backed up, and traffic at Santa Teresa and Blossom Hill was at a standstill for hours. This 1996 strip mall concert remains an indelible part of Metallica lore and Bay Area music history. source footage 🎥: MetConcerts100

2 weeks of glycine + NAC restored signs of aging back to youthful levels. Older adults (60-75) vs younger adults (30-40). The older group had: ◈ ~46% lower glutathione ◈ ~68% slower glutathione production ◈ ~55% less glycine and ~24% less cysteine, the building blocks ◈ Significantly higher oxidative damage markers After 14 days on a megadose of glycine+NAC (100 mg/kg glycine + 133 mg/kg NAC), the older folks saw: ◈ Glutathione nearly doubled (+95%) ◈ Glutathione production more than tripled (+231%) ◈ Oxidative stress + damage markers dropped to the same levels as the young group ◈ Trend towards reduced blood sugar (improved insulin resistance) They were indistinguishable from people 30 years younger on every one of these measures. Oxidative stress and insulin resistance are core drivers of all aging processes. This simple combo can combat it.
One of the most impressive studies in recent memory showed that 2 cheap, over the counter supplements reversed nearly every sign of aging measured. (🧵1/8)

There's no evidence high protein harms your kidneys: - 1 gram of quality protein per pound of ideal body weight - where you want to be, not what you weigh now - Someone at 200 pounds who wants to be 150 eats toward 150 - 0.8 grams per kg is a low protein diet, not a high one - No evidence a higher protein intake damages kidney health or bone health - Protein-forward eating plus resistance training is what moves body composition @drgabriellelyon on @hubermanlab

Just because your blood work comes back normal doesn't mean there's nothing going on. Dr. Christina Rahm explains why symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, bloating, poor sleep, and unexplained weight changes deserve a closer look. Routine blood work doesn't test for everything, and persistent symptoms can have causes that require further investigation. The takeaway? Don't ignore what your body is telling you just because your initial labs look fine.

Blueberries may help older adults remember more and switch mental gears more effectively In a 12-week trial, the equivalent of ~1 cup of wild blueberries daily improved immediate word recall and the ability to switch between different rules (known as cognitive flexibility) A separate meta-analysis of nine randomized trials found small memory improvements in older adults with mild cognitive impairment or self-reported decline

Blueberries may support muscle recovery after demanding exercise In one crossover study in women, blueberry smoothies before and after damaging exercise helped strength return faster, without preventing the initial muscle damage or strength loss Two separate trials using ~1 cup daily for 2–3 weeks also found changes in oxylipins (fat-derived signaling molecules) consistent with inflammation resolution after exercise These findings suggest blueberries may help the body recover from the stress of exercise, with recovery showing more promise than performance
