Decentralization starts with who builds the block.
Lazarus Pool exists to put that power in miners' hands.
We mine BLAKE2b Bitcoin (XBT/BTCB2), with a simple mission: more independent nodes, more miners building their own block templates.
Lazarus right now: 15.3 PH/s, about 27% of the network.
199 miners building their own templates. (7 Nov, 1:30 PM CT)
A few pools building most blocks isn't decentralization.
A few hundred home nodes building them is. That's what DATUM is for.
Already mining on a pool? Keep the hardware.
Add a Knots node and a DATUM gateway, repoint the miner.
Same box. Now it votes.

SHA-256 boxes can't mine here. The proof of work is blake2b.
Shopping for a miner? Check the algorithm first.
Every block Lazarus finds pays miners straight from the coinbase.
No pool wallet. No IOUs.

Junk PC. Knots node. DATUM gateway.
One blake2b miner humming in the closet.
That's a Bitcoin miner. No data center required.
99% of our hash right now is miners building their own block templates with DATUM.
138 gateways. 188 miners. (28 Oct, 1:30 PM CT)
Same ledger since 2009. On 30 Aug the proof of work changed: SHA-256 out, blake2b in.
The white paper says "such as with SHA-256." An example, not a rule.
@Awoken_Lazarus: "If your definition of Bitcoin is the white paper from Satoshi, this is Bitcoin."

Gateway operators: update your DATUM gateway
Some gateways on this pool run an out-of-date DATUM gateway. A block found through one can pay the whole reward to the pool address instead of paying each miner directly. Nobody loses that reward, but the pool has to hold those funds and pay every miner their share itself, as a make-good, once the block matures (about 45 days but could be a year). If you run a gateway, update it to a current build so your blocks pay miners directly. Questions? Join our Discord or the Knots Discord and ask for help.
I am sure other pools are having similar issues. Please update!

If bitcoin returns to $80k-$100k+ prices, I won't say much, but there will be signs.
Does pointing a box at a pool make you a miner?
Not quite. Building the block does.
Knots node + DATUM gateway. That's the upgrade.
Hashing to a pool: the pool picks the transactions.
Mining with DATUM: your node does.
Same miner. Different vote.
Hash power secures the network. The same hash power, pointed at whichever pool is cheapest, can be turned against it.
The difference is who builds the block.
@Awoken_Lazarus on pool charts, DATUM, and the Raspberry Pi node on his living room table:
"Don't buy it, mine it" keeps turning up in the comments this month.
We'd add one step: build it.
Your node picks the transactions. Your DATUM gateway hands that template to your miner. The pool only works out who gets paid.
Spam found this chain too. Knots PR #463 counted 2,113 transactions since the proof of work changed on 30 Aug that hide files in fake public keys.
With DATUM, your node's policy decides what goes in your block template. Not ours.
