Problems that don't exist:
(1) children who don't want to learn
(2) a culture or mindset of poverty
(3) communities that don't value education
(4) educational disparities caused by an entire group's shortage of "grit."
Let's not use energy fixing problems that don't exist.

In districts with boards that are 75% or more female, nearly half (48%) of the Superintendents leading the District are women. Representation matters. When we have more more female leaders on school boards, we have more female superintendents.

Leadership is hard. Nobody said it would be easy.
🔺When people talk about you, keep leading.
🔹When people compliment you, keep leading.
🔺When your hard work goes unnoticed, keep leading.
Why? Because we are in the kid business. Kids are the reason schools exist. It isn’t about you or me. It’s about kids. When things are good, bad or ugly, keep leading.
When we keep showing up to lead, that’s when success will follow. That’s when kids’ pathways will be redirected. And that is when we know we are changing the world.
KEEP. LEADING.

You can order Something, Someday through the link in my bio. Happy reading! 💛

Racial equity is not just "giving individual students what they need to succeed." Part of what students need is to not experience racism at school. That requires institutional antiracism, not just individual differentiating.

Tomorrow's one of my favorite activities to help students think more critically about concepts: hexagonal thinking.
I like to turn it into a bit of a game at first to help them be more willing to stretch their thinking.

When we place kids in environments that prioritize the goal over the process, we distort any sense of meaning and purpose in learning. This is why grades and the reliance on them for motivation can hinder real learning in the classroom.

That positive phone call home to caregivers does wonders.
Disrupt the predictable pattern. Make it so our families don’t associate schools calls with negativity and harm.
Let us know that our babies are seen and valued. Make that call!
