Seaton is a critic I much admire.
“The more I read the more I find reading to be a very complex activity, not straightforward or natural at all.” —an interview with Lola Seaton (@lola_seaton) go.nybooks.com/4dQYLis
Pontifex is still on X but apparently he needs to be writing for The Free Press, Unherd &c. Sad!
In the face of rising populism, the Church has adopted a reactionary stance, just as it initially did against liberalism and democracy. I wrote about this for the Claremont Review of Books.

Time to re-Eire this as he's in the news

This thread merely notes Eire's popularity w/o explaining it properly, but the criticisms of They Flew are bang on.
Two things can be true at once!
The NDP are sad and flailing.
I stand behind Lorne Doerkson 1000% and I’m proud to have spent time in close ridings during this election, raising needed funds and encouraging voters to elect a strong Conservative government with Lorne at the helm.
He has done an incredible job as @Conservative_BC Leader and will do an even more incredible job as Premier of British Columbia.
Love Eire's work but this is rather silly, not least because Marx wouldn't enjoy most of the modern humanities.
Of course it's probably unhealthy to feel a parasocial bond with a world leader, but I'm a papist, so.
The gooning article was already too long though! (His other stuff has been good)
From last night’s Breaker: Daniel Kolitz, whose Harper’s piece “The Goon Squad” won a National Magazine Award for Feature Writing, has landed a book deal with Farrar, Straus and Giroux to write “GOONWORLD.”

V good temperament on display here.
An in-depth and wide-ranging interview with Vancouver mayor-elect Pete Fry.
"Don’t be scared... I'm a very reasonable and moderate guy at the end of the day." Fry says he'll work on tempering some of COPE's radical positions. #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre

Who owns the pope's body? My essay for @ABCReligion on @Pontifex, AI, and the limits of Catholic devotion: abc.net.au/religion/miles-pa… #PopeLeoXIV #Vatican #CatholicChurch
Still hoping for a minority NDP government, so that Vancouver gets to enjoy nice things.
9 of 10 BC Conservative candidates in Surrey won't say if Doerkson's campaign director should go after her Islamophobic posts. The tenth defended her.
Silence is never an excuse.
