We aren’t set up for recycling this kind of packaging and creative marketing is causing a headache in our waste streams! Great to see comments from across the industry from James Piper, Adam Herriott, and Ambarish Mitra.

I’ve seen a growing number of products come on the market which are using these clear plastic containers/cans fused to metal tops for selling aesthetically pleasing drinks such as cocktails, matcha, iced coffee and milkshakes.

Happy to comment in this piece about the frustratingly unrecyclable Buzzballz which are taking the alcoholic drinks industry by storm!🍹❌♻️ BBC Cymru Wales - It's the cocktail taking young drinkers by storm - but the packaging is 'unrecyclable' bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr49…

"Novel ways to reduce constraint payments for taxpayers, while meaning lower bills for some Scottish billpayers, could be a win-win." @LessWasteLaura eciu.net/media/press-release…
Sometimes there is too much wind for our outdated grid to handle, especially in Scotland and the East of England. Rather than paying wind farms to switch off we’re trialling a new system where people who live near these constrained areas get cheaper - or even free - electricity.

Huge credit to the @SFRSYourSafety and all other emergency services who worked so hard to keep this under control. This has already had a devastating impact on so many businesses who called Union St home, and we all need to step up and support them when they’re back on their feet

There needs to be more regulation about how these hazardous products are stored in commercial premises, where shops are allowed to be located, as well as more public awareness of the risks associated with all lithium battery products (vapes, e-scooters, small electrical items)

To be honest, everyone should be doing this regardless of their proximity to one, as they are at the heart of so many places we day to day.

Where do we go from here? If I lived in a town centre next to/above a vape shop, or had a business near to one, or was a business landlord with a vape shop tenant, I know I would be emailing my elected representatives (councillors, MSPs, MP) to make my feelings known!

Lithium-ion batteries can go into thermal runaway where the lithium-ion cell enters an uncontrollable, self-heating state. Thermal runaway can result in extremely high temperatures, violent cell venting, smoke and fire. These fires are some of the hardest to put out.

We’ve seen thousands of fires from vapes in our waste streams, with fires in bins, bin lorries and at waste sites across the UK. But now we see the devastation from vape shops being at the heart of our high streets and cities, and the damage possible when fires get out of control
