Merit-based hiring? From the UCP? Are you kidding?
Insecure leaders don’t hire competent people. They hire people who won’t threaten their position.
The UCP has spent years pushing competent people out and replacing them with political loyalists. Now they want to lecture Albertans about hiring the best person for the job?
This is about saving face with a base that has lost confidence in the UCP.
With an AGM looming, court cases mounting and RCMP investigations underway, the Premier needs distractions.
Meanwhile, governing takes a backseat. Affordability, healthcare and the issues affecting Albertans every day are left unaddressed.
This isn’t about competency. It’s about political survival from a government increasingly out of touch.

The best person for the job should get the job. Period.
Today we tabled legislation that would ensure hiring and promotion decisions in the public sector are based on merit, not DEI policies. Mandatory workplace training will be relevant to the roles and responsibilities of the employee, instead of mandatory DEI sessions.
Every Albertan deserves a fair shot, and fairness means everyone competes on the same terms.

The NDP just put forward a motion for disclosure of all payments made during the UCP's gerrymandering report in order to know who advised the report, including what pollsters advised on "voting patterns".
The UCP voted against it.
(They actually haven't yet, but we're betting they will UCP press secretary style)

They’re waging war against a 5% billionaire wealth tax.

DEI is not about hiring someone unqualified (unlike politics), it’s about ensuring that qualified job candidates, regardless of sex, race, age, disability, sexuality, etc have an equal shot given these groups are historically underrepresented when they *aren’t* considered.
