Guess who's got 2 thumbs & is opening to submissions on Aug 24? It's THIS MAG. Actually, the magazine doesn't have any thumbs, but I—JJA—do, and I'm eager to get them all over dem horror stories after 6 years out of the editorial chair. I guess it will mostly be my other fingers.

I just published a 5e-compatible D&D adventure I wrote on @roll20 and @drivethrurpg! "Ascendancy of Nur'Ry'Za" is a monk-centric adventure designed for 5 PCs of 5th or 6th level. Included with the adventure is an original Way of Control monk subclass. johnjosephadams.com/projects…

Good news, everyone! I'm launching a new newsletter in January 2025 called ROBOT WIZARD ZOMBIE CRIT! Why that name? Robot = science fiction, Wizard = fantasy, Zombie = horror, and Crit! = roleplaying games. Together, they represent what the inside of my brain looks like. It will have updates on @LightspeedMag and @NightmareMag and my anthologies; plus, you'll get my thoughts about books, short stories, TV and film, roleplaying games, and related subjects. All subscribers to the newsletter will receive the ebook anthology ROBOT WIZARD ZOMBIE CRIT! STORIES: VOLUME ONE as a free reward for subscribing once the newsletter launches.

Bravo to @LightspeedMag, @StefansEcho, + the other narrators--the audio version of @CarolineYoachim's "We Will Teach You How to Read/We Will Teach You How to Read" is stunning. First I listened, then read it then listened again. And I hope + believe that The Story will live on.

Okay, yes, goddamnit: this is fantastic, nostalgic, thought-provoking, innovative writing about otherness and the desire to survive one’s death and the betrayal of children who become themselves and cause cultural drift.
Read it now. It’s short, as you’ll see it must be.
Editor's Note: This story, "We Will Teach You How to Read | We Will Teach You How to Read" is one of the most amazing stories I've ever read. I urge everyone to read it, & I'm so excited to finally share it with you all.

Listen to JJA. @CarolineYoachim's new sf story in Lightspeed Magazine is a masterpiece, both in concept and completion, a perfect marriage of form and theme, and proof that science fiction as a genre can still do things no other genre can do.
Let it teach you how to read it.
