Neurons aren't the whole story in SCA1. 🧠
In our new @jclinicalinvest paper, we show that mutant ataxin-1 in oligodendrocytes alone drives demyelination & motor deficits.

In his #TraineeTuesday highlight last year, Victor Olmos (@LimLabYale) revealed why his research on spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (a rare neurodegenerative disorder) felt personal. Huntington’s disease, another dominantly inherited polyglutamine disease, runs in his family [1/4]
Just out in @hmg_journal: we utilize bulk RNAseq to demonstrate dysregulation of🧬alternative splicing🧬in spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 #SCA1

Researchers identify a novel function of Nemo-like kinase (Nlk) as a negative regulator of lysosome biogenesis. Genetic or pharmacological (ASO) reduction of Nlk increased lysosome formation & improved clearance of aggregated TDP-43; Nlk destabilizes TFEB
