Yesterday I successfully defended my Ph.D. on extreme⛈️forecasting in the #Mediterranean.
Although remote, it was a great event and all the committee members posed interesting questions and gave the opportunity for a very lively discussion.

10 years since #Sandy10 . A career-changing event as I had not worked with TC before. We were excited to run an #ECMWF run an experimental forecast with 5km (TL3999) global resolution after the storm. doi.org/10.1175/MWR-D-13-002…
A short summary about predictions for the 2022 European heatwave on different time-scales is now in the ECMWF Newsletter: ecmwf.int/en/newsletter/173/…

12UTC on Sunday is tricky #PolarPrediction being in the transition from 'hot' weather on Saturday back to normal. The plot shows all issued #ECMWF ENS (blue) and HRES (red dot) valid Sunday. I go for ENS Median -9C. @applicate_eu

A perfect example of a moist air intrusion into the #Arctic caused by storm #Denis, shown by @LinusMagnusson5 in our weekly weather discussion @ECMWF. The #YOPP Targeted Observing Period @polarprediction will focus on this phenomena, which may well be key for #polaramplification
