despite the unfortunate timing, we take disclosures seriously at @typesafeai
at approximately 6:49PM this Friday evening, we became aware of a massive unauthorized leak of ALL customer noul outputs
in effort to maximize transparency, here is the link: gist.github.com/diogo149/810…
Replying to @LinusMixson
Woah woah woah, without GNU there would be no way to run those hacker tools. You need to blame Linus - Stallman

lol so much effort and I don’t think actual normies even registered that a “warning sign” happened.
now please just give up and realise that things are *fine*. do not, I repeat DO NOT escalate the warning sign protocol to bio.

On the zeroth order lm training stuff:
It's cool that people try stuff instead of only reading and dooming. But i feel the need to curb the enthusiasm on this one a little. Two things:
(1) methods in the genetic-algo and fwd-diff categories, which imo these fall in, is established that they are fine for smaller parameter counts but fall off hard as parameter space increases. It's not necessarily raw param count that matters here but "intrinsic" size. This is the whole point of backprop: few outputs many params.
(2) loss 4.2 for LM is very high even for a 30M parameter model. Go a bit higher and you are at learning token unigram distribution. This means for this score not much interesting/difficult learning has to happen yet.
Again it's fine to rediscover things like this from first principles. In fact it's the very best way to learn and i recommend it; i spent a lot of time learning like this myself! But now with social media hype amplification and crazy vcs and journalist attention that our field gets, i do feel the need to be a bit more cautious with communication and there to be "old pessimist" voice like mine in the room to.
(But unlike some other old pessimist voices, if i turn out to be wrong I'll happily admit it and cheer on =)

I cannot totally dismiss a thought, that the current concentrated occurrence of so many CVE's in essential Software is not a coincidence. It looks like a strategy to cut into opensource and open-weight local AI as being the source of the problem. Ironically, it is the solution.

DO NOT build Berghain in SF
ESPECIALLY DO NOT if your goal is “becoming the coolest, most tasteful social scene on Earth”
berghain can only work in a place where you can credibly not care about the status and class of the guy ketaminely grinding on your leg. the most vip treatment anyone can get is skipping the queue, after which they queue for tickets and wardrobe like everyone else. they specifically do not let you in if you don’t look like you can party for 24h without looking at your phone or looking for your friends
pics are prohibited. just imagine the loopholes San Franciscans would come up with; they cannot eat a steak without twitter knowing
and the fukken gossip—spare me. Berghain is incompatible with girlchat.
you came to the bay to see the coming age through. focus on that and stop being so fucking cheugy
My experience partying all night at Berghain in Berlin made me think of how we're lacking this experience in the San Francisco tech scene. We can literally become the coolest, most tasteful social scene on Earth if we had our version of Berghain, but better. So let's build it. The best aspect of Berhain is how they select who gets in. The club has a vibe and atmosphere, and if you aren't wearing the right clothes or have the right demeanor, you don't get in. That's how you cultivate a tasteful crowd. We can improve on this by only letting in high agency, talented operators in the tech scene who can still pull off dope outfits, so no geeks. SF is in dire need of late night venues, and Berghain goes until 8am. That's a little too crazy for high net worth operators who are changing the world so we could do something like 2am. Berghain also is kinda dark and in a weird building so we'd put the club in a SoMa corporate office that we convert to speakeasy or barcade vibe. Maybe add a quiet area for people to bring their laptops and work? I honestly feel like we're improving on the Berghain form here, especially by swapping out the crowd of weird partiers in inappropriate clothes (or lack there of) with insanely cracked founders and engineers. I'm super stoked about this idea, SF tech could really run the dopest parties on the planet.

Employees are running thousands of simultaneous agents but Claude Code is still missing basic features which have bene in Codex, OpenCode, and OMP for months.
Really wonder how bad the AI psychosis is inside of Anthropic.
I asked @bcherny how many Claude agents he's running right now as he sat next to me.
"A few thousand."
Boris (creator of Claude Code) came back to my Stanford course 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 last Thursday. His main takeaways:
- 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸: Claude has written 100% of his team's code since November and output is up ~10x per engineer. So much code shipped that people stopped reading it carefully and started skimming, so they automated code review. Approvals are next. The team identified the main things impeding their development velocity and built systems to unblock themselves.
- 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁: early Claude Code revenue was flat for months because the model wasn't smart enough yet. Then Opus 4 came out and growth became astronomic. His method is to read your agent transcripts and see where the model fails. That's where it will improve in the next model release.
- 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗴𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿: for months Claude Code was basically just him. With AI, one or two people can outship a team 100 times their size. Constraints breed creativity.
- 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗽𝘀: his grandpa programmed punch cards in the Soviet Union. Boris writes loops that run for days or weeks and spawn many agents. He expects that typing code by hand is heading where punch cards went.
- 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: he expects the best accounting software of 2027 to be built by an accountant. When code is cheap, knowing the problem deeply is the only alpha
In the 50 years after the printing press, Europe produced more literature than in the previous 1,000. He thinks coding is about to undergo a similar explosion of creation.

Updating this from weekly to daily. I’ll make one more prediction: within five years, the “open” internet, which has been increasingly enclosed by all of these corporations, will vanish entirely. We are moving into the age of private walled gardens. It was nice while it lasted.

If I were a male gynecologist I would keep a couple of bits and gags in the chamber to keep my female patients at ease, considering the obvious. Like in order to lighten the mood before starting my examination, I would say something like “Now it’s time to take a look under the hood!” Or, if I could tell she was a little stressed during the exam by the level of her cervical tension (doctor term I coined), I would stop and cup my hands to my mouth and go “HELLOOOO ….. helloo ….. hello ……. hello” like an echo effect was coming from her cavernous sex. And if we go through the entire exam and we see everything down there is up to snuff or sniff , I would relay the good news by telling them: “Your pussy is BUSSIN’, queen!” then send her on her way with a lollipop in the shape of a vag. Also I’d only see patients who are under the age of 30.
