No one experiencing domestic abuse should ever have to choose between their safety and their financial security. Today I have set out clear decisions on how this important new employment right will work. All eligible employees and workers will be entitled to 10 days of Safe Leave, paid at their normal rate of pay, whether they work full-time or part-time. It will be available from the first day of employment and can be taken flexibly, including in half-days. It is my intention this new right will be in place from April 2027. #domesticabuseawareness #safeleave #domesticabuseawarenessweek
Economy Minister Dr @CArchibald_SF has announced how a new right to 10 days’ paid Safe Leave will operate for victims and survivors of domestic abuse, as part of her Good Jobs agenda. 🔗 economy-ni.gov.uk/news/archi… @unisontheunion @LRA_NIreland @WomensAidNI @LawCentreNI @WRDA_team

The wage floor still needs to rise. But it won't reach the two-thirds of the low paid already above it. For them it's hours, and how work is organised in the sectors where low pay is concentrated.

Raising the minimum wage will help those on it. Most of the low paid are above it. For them, it's the hours and how work is organised in the sectors where low pay is concentrated.
