Usually imperial emperors build such things after they have won some great war.
But we are not an empire.
We are not ruled be a monarch.
And Trump has not won some great war.
Americans don’t need this. Let Trump build his own monument on his own dime down in Florida.
We are pleased to announce that after a very long wait (over 125 years!), we are preparing to start, over the next two-week period, the excavation work necessary for the Great Triumphal Arch and Military Observation Deck, at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. This will be one of the Great Pieces of American Architecture, honoring the history and significance of Arlington Cemetery and befitting the most powerful Capital in the World.

My statement:
“Today, the U.S. Supreme Court stood up for the rule of law and Americans everywhere. Its message was simple: Presidents are powerful, but our Constitution is more powerful still. In America, only Congress can impose taxes on the American people.
The US Supreme Court gave us everything we asked for in our legal case. Everything.
I’m grateful for the leadership of the Liberty Justice Center, and in particular for the brilliant advocacy by its chair, Sara Albrecht, who led the fight when others wouldn’t and was dauntless in its defense of our constitutional order. I'm also grateful to the five small business owners who stood up against these unjust, unconstitutional taxes. By taking a stand, they have delivered crucial relief to tens of thousands of businesses and millions of consumers across the country.
Finally, I lack the words to properly thank my brilliant Milbank team, especially Colleen Roh Sinzdak and Sami Ilagan, who worked with me day and night for many months to craft the winning argument.
This case has always been about the presidency, not any one president. It has always been about separation of powers, and not the politics of the moment. I'm gratified to see our Supreme Court, which has been the bedrock of our government for 250 years, protect our most fundamental values.

Do you have a passport? Do you know where your birth certificate is?
If the answer to both is no, then you cannot vote under the SAVE Act.
The SAVE Act is NOT a voter ID bill. It’s a voter suppression bill.

The Kennedy Center has been in continuous operation for 55 years.
Trump and Ric Grenell destroyed it in one year by making it so toxic that nobody will perform there.
Now they have to shut it down like a Trump casino.

Adding your name to a memorial already named in honor of a great man doesn’t make you a great man. Quite the contrary. Putting your name on top of someone else’s doesn’t mean that people will speak of you in the same breath as the other man. Putting your name above another man’s name on his existing memorial… What is that about? Truly? What’s that about? Do you want people to speak the names as one? Dig down deep. What are you trying to say? I’m really interested. There is no other president who would do this. None. Zero. In fact, it’s not even legal. Congress named the performing arts center as a living memorial in 1964, and only congress can change that law.
This will always be the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Art. A great man would have said to his hand picked board, “Thank you, but the building already has its name. Let it stand. Let it be. I don’t need that.” But then again…

We can’t lose focus on what matters – right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections. This is a power grab that undermines our democracy.
Texas: Your vote matters—and so does your map. And right now, power-hungry politicians are trying to gerrymander it to silence your voices. Join @RedistrictFdn for a virtual event to learn how redistricting shapes your vote—and how you can take action.

Explaining gerrymandering
More of a public service announcement than an editorial cartoon.

1/On July 21, the Washington Post ran a piece headlined, “Trump officials accused of defying 1 in 3 judges who ruled against him.” There are real reasons for the courts to be concerned about the Trump administration gearing up to actively flout the authority of the Article III branch of government.

ICYMI, it was @MarilynRMarks1 who discovered the voting system breach in Coffee County, GA. Not the GA Secretary of State. Not Fani Willis. It was Marilyn. 1/
Thanks, @jennycohn1 for explaining the simple solution for concerns about whether Trump really won, or if there was manipulation of the vulnerable systems. Simply take 2-3 days to verify the vote counts by manual recount or audit of hand marked ballots. Verify the outcome! 1/
