Before everyone starts asking about increasing the HE tuition fee, and who pays for it (obvs. important!), understanding the impact of the arbitrary fiscal rules that the Labour government has chosen to inherit is crucial. These limit almost all the options normally available.

Very pleased to be presenting at an @AdvanceHE session today on HEI finances for student governors ….. It’s quite packed 😳

If the Conservative proposals are to eliminate ‘low value’ degrees, why not just pay nurses and teachers more?
That would be a good start.

Probably the most we’ve heard from Phillipson in public on HE for a while. Doesn’t rule out raising fees, wants it more progressive for students/graduates and solution likely to be from within existing system (ie the @LE_Education slide rule). Expect this to come up more in the campaign.
“I am determined that we can deliver a more progressive system without any more spending or borrowing”
Labour’s Bridget Phillipson says increasing tuition fees is “unpalatable”, but does not rule it out
