The Black Horse and Harrow 📍167 Rushey Grn, London SE6 4BD 🚇 Catford Bridge 🍺 £3.40 Amstel The Black Horse and Harrow is located in Catford in Southeast London. The nearest station is Catford Bridge. This pub has a long history, with an inn recorded on the site from at least the early 18th century. The present building was rebuilt in 1897. Over the years, the pub has traded under several names, most recently The Duke of Catford. Following a period of closure, it reopened in May 2026 under its historic name, The Black Horse and Harrow. This is a grand, traditionally decorated one bar pub. The main bar area stretches the length of the pub, with a good sized servery. Just behind the main bar is an adjoining room with a pool table and two dartboards. Upstairs, there is a function room with a balcony, at the rear of the pub is a spacious beer garden. The decor consists of a boarded floor, with tiles around the servery and a carpeted area on the far right. The walls and ceiling are painted in bold colours, and there is plenty of comfortable seating. There are some nice architectural details, including arched openings, columns and attractive woodwork. The beer selection is all keg, with a line up of familiar favourites. I kept it simple and opted for an Amstel. My pint hit the spot, price point was excellent at under four quid. This is a wet-led pub, but bar snacks are available. I arrived at 11am, bang on opening, on a mild Saturday morning in October. I was joined shortly afterwards by about half a dozen locals popping in for an early pint. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, with the locals catching up on the latest gossip. The service was first class, and I was lucky enough to get a guided tour from the Guv’nor, who was personable and friendly. This is a grand London pub that was great to spend time in. I loved the architecture and the scale of the place, and the prices are excellent. The hospitality was friendly, and I enjoyed the strong local community pub feel. It’s always great to see a pub brought back to life. Make sure you pay it a visit if you’re in the area. 📅 3rd October 2026 #londonpub #pub #catford #se6 #blackhorseandharrow

No London pub crawl today, as I’m out with the chaps for a few beers for my mate’s birthday over in Rickmansworth. I popped into a local cafe for breakfast. Top grub, £10.45 with tea and toast. 🍳 #cafe #breakfast

The Duke of Wellington 📍94A Crawford St, London W1H 2HQ 🚇 Edgware Road 🍺 £7.50 Mahou The Duke of Wellington is located in the backstreets of Marylebone, opposite the imposing St Mary’s Church. The nearest Tube is Edgware Road. This Grade II listed pub was originally built in 1812 and altered around 1860, giving the ground floor much of its distinctive architectural character. When it first opened, it was named the Marquess of Wellington before being officially renamed the Duke of Wellington following Arthur Wellesley’s victories against Napoleon. This is a traditionally decorated, one bar pub. The servery is situated along the back wall, with a serving area to the right. There is a dining room on the first floor, along with benches outside for the warmer months. The decor consists of a boarded floor, white panelled walls, deep red wallpaper and a matching ceiling. Traditional seating includes a comfortable banquette wrapping around three sides of the bar. There is also some interesting pop art and a selection of posters, including Biggie Smalls and Jack Nicholson. Continues in comments… 👇

The beer selection features familiar favourites, premium lagers, independent brews and cask ales. I opted for a Mahou, my pint was excellent, price point was high. The food menu offers gastro dishes and pub classics. Fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, costs £20, roasts are available on Sunday’s. We arrived at 4pm on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon in August. I met up with my sister and brother-in-law, and it was great to enjoy a beer and catch up. The pub was fairly busy inside and absolutely packed on the benches outside. There was a nice, convivial atmosphere throughout, and the team on duty were welcoming and friendly. We very much enjoyed our time here, this was a very relaxed pub to enjoy time in. There is good selection of beers, comfortable surroundings and friendly service. This pub is well worth a visit if you’re in the area. 📅 1st August 2026 #dukeofwellington #marylebone #londonpub #w1 #pub

William Henry and Herbert Le May were a father-and-son partnership who traded as hop factors from 67 Borough High Street, Southwark. Their former business premises are a wonderful surviving reminder of London's historic brewing trade. A hop factor was an intermediary in the brewing industry. Hop growers, particularly those in Kent and Sussex, supplied their crops through factors, who acted as agents and sold the hops on to merchants and ultimately breweries. Hops were essential for brewing beer, contributing bitterness, flavour and aroma. #borough #brewing
