Derive V3 started with one question: how do you scale an onchain derivatives exchange without moving settlement away from Ethereum?
Our answer was to build an application-specific rollup for derivatives, with Celestia for data availability, Succinct for proofs and Ethereum for settlement.
Why not just put everything on Ethereum?
Derive produces a lot of state, and that grows quickly with activity. Posting all of the underlying data directly to Ethereum would make scaling the exchange much more expensive.
V3 posts the data behind state changes to @celestia, while the protocol continues to settle on Ethereum.
Why does that data need to exist outside Derive?
Because V3 is designed so users can still verify their state and withdraw without depending on Derive’s API or sequencer. If the data only existed in our own database, that guarantee would be much weaker.
Celestia gives the protocol somewhere independent to publish the data needed to reconstruct and verify state, while Succinct proofs verify the updates that are ultimately committed to Ethereum.
Where does privacy fit?
We've been working with the Celestia ecosystem on a design where account data will eventually be encrypted while still giving users what they need to prove their state themselves.

Okay, Nous just put Hermes inside X.
Hermes now lives in your X DMs.
X Chat is an official Hermes plugin from Nous Research. Message it like any other chat and it answers right in the thread.
What it does:
▸ Runs on your own X account, or give it its own account and DM that
▸ End-to-end encrypted. Messages are decrypted on your own machine
▸ Send it photos and files, and it sends them back, encrypted both ways
▸ Works in group chats and stays quiet until someone says "hermes"
▸ Scheduled jobs drop their results straight into your DMs
What you can do with it:
▸ Snap a parking sign, a menu or a receipt and ask it anything
▸ Let it split the bill or settle the debate in your group chat
▸ Have it answer customer DMs from the people you approve, as you
▸ Send follow-ups and outreach DMs for your brand
▸ Wake up to a morning brief, alerts or reports in your inbox
▸ Ask for a file, image or voice note and get it right in the chat
Your agent, one tap away in the app you already open all day.
GENIUS Act
President Trump fundamentally transformed the future of finance with the signing of the GENIUS Act last year.
Today, U.S. Treasury’s @USOCC took a critical step toward implementing this historic legislation with the release of a final rule that delivers a federal framework for payment stablecoins that further cements American dominance in digital assets.

Wow, such a cool development by @Trueo_ x @DefiLlama
At minimum, very interesting experimentation for PMs to bet on protocol revenue + protocol exploits.
There is issue with hackers/exploiters abusing these PMs before doing damage via the actual hack, but that could also be signal of something sinister about to take place.
Really interested to see this play out more.

Adding to this, a lot of people missed in the recent Jeff interview that he explicitly advocates for the HIP4 style approach for on chain options because it makes both parties pre-fund their obligations. Binaries are always fixed win/loss by nature, and if you stack them they just function as call/put spreads.
This is a necessity to be compatible with the existing risk engine, not an intentional design decision. This all but confirms that native vanilla options are not coming any time soon for Hyperliquid, otherwise he wouldn't be leaning into this approach.
Perps first platforms are strapping on binaries as an afterthought because it's easy, but you're also seeing the adoption, or rather lack thereof, they are receiving.
People want not just path independence, but also the unbounded convexity and ability to long vol and tail events that only vanillas can provide.
@DeriveXYZ is purpose built for options. I'm shocked that people find it so hard to believe that the venue purpose built for options will have a strong moat given that Deribit has survived the competition from Binance, OKX, and Bybit after all these years.
The @Lighter_xyz announcement today is bullish $DRV, not bearish. If vanilla options were so easy to add, they'd have done it already rather than adding binaries, which nobody really wants.
I'm bullish $LIT here too but binary options are a misnomer and nothingburger. They'll probably generate <$10,000 revenue between now and EOY.
Because Binary options resolve to a fixed YES // NO typically at $1, the payoff is capped. So there's capped upside & less/different convexity. Vega, Gamma, & the other greeks also work differently for Binaries compared to Vanilla options (Derive)
All of this pretty much makes Binaries an inferior product. The pay-offs aren't as good, they're not as capital efficient for hedging, there's not really a concept of vol buying/selling, and you cannot construct as mature expressions of the market as you can with vanilla options
I think this alone explains a lot of the challenges we've seen in HIP-4 adoption (and challenges I expect lighter to have unless they incentivize these markets heavily). It is the case that perps are far simpler than options and it's easier to bootstrap liquidity, therefore they've had strong product market fit in crypto
HOWEVER, binaries options sit in a weird place. You still have the liquidity problems of vanilla options (you have to support liquidity at many strikes at many expiries) but an overall weaker payoff structure. This disincentives the creation of deep liquidity. It's just kinda not worth it for the more pro-tail to institutional type of traders who use options for what their actually intended for (mature expressions of path & volatility +plus some yield strategies). TLDR: Binaries are like an ugly middle child
The reason Hyperliquid & Lighter are starting with Binary options before moving to Vanilla options (if ever) is that the fact they resolve to the fixed $1 share amount, means they slot in easier into the existing risk & margin engines of the protocols. If you want to support true options then you need a risk engine built specifically with the convexity of options in mind rather than just linear returns like perps. I'm not an expert but everything I have learned so far & the experts I've talked to, are all adamant this would be a fundamental rewrite of risk engines and margining for Hyperliquid & Lighter - something I imagine both are reluctant to do, especially when they can still make a gazillion dollars by winning perps
^^ This also explains some of Crypto's centralized market structure as well. Binance & OKX have the most perps volume by a large margin, you'd expect them to also be leading in options but they aren't. The centralized options leaders are two entirely different exchanges Deribit and ByBit. Again, this is because market structure & risk engines are just a different thing for options. So we've seen the leaders in that space keep their lead despite well funded and talented competition. I don't think it's unfounded to believe that at least for the foreseeable future, Derive is in a position to keep it's lead and go toe-to-toe with the leading perps dexes at least in the domain of options.
TLDR: same reason I don't see Derive being competition to HL or LIT perps (it's just a complimentary part of their product offering) - I don't see HL or LIT being competition to Derive options (it's just a complimentary part of their product offering
All of this re-affirms why I'm so bullish on Derive ethereum:0xb1d1eae60eea9525032a6dcb4c1ce336a1de71be as they STILL have 90%+ of market share for onchain options premium (what people are actually willing to pay to use the product).

Big congratulations to the @zksync airbender team for this milestone.
At this point, I consider the battle for speed to be definitively won, and the top priority for zkEVMs should shift fully to security.
To me that means formally verifying
(i) equivalence of the arithmetization to the ethereum spec
(ii) a hard maximum bound on (prover cost) / (amount of gas in block)
(iii) security of the proof system itself

The team believes in one year:
10x revenue growth ($2.38 ) at least
20x revenue growth ($4.75 ), if everything is right
Derive's revenue could grow 10x and $DRV would still need to maintain a ~200x valuation multiple to reach $5.
@tulipking shared a fantastic growth thesis for $DRV. Here I will cover what I agree and disagree with.
First, what I agree with:
> @DeriveXYZ's growth has been impressive, and I agree with the potential for continued expansion of onchain options.
> The launch of V3 introduces additional opportunities to attract volume and liquidity, while increasing the buyback allocation from 35% to 50% strengthens the relationship between protocol revenue and tokenholder value capture.
> Derive's dominant position in onchain options also puts it in a favorable position to benefit from the category's expansion.
Where I disagree is the potential impact of said growth in $DRV's valuation.
Between September '25 and '26:
> Notional grew 7.5x
> Fees grew 5x
> Market cap grew ~11x
Valuation has already substantially outpaced fee growth. At ~$666M FDV and ~$3.3M in projected annual buybacks under the upcoming 50% allocation, DRV trades at ~200x FDV/Holders Revenue.
For comparison, Hyperliquid trades at ~95x.
Assuming a starting price of $0.50, here's what different revenue growth and valuation scenarios imply for DRV:
At a 95x FDV/HR multiple (comparable to Hyperliquid today):
5x revenue growth → $1.19
10x revenue growth → $2.38
20x revenue growth → $4.75
40x revenue growth → $9.50
At a 200x FDV/HR multiple (Derive's current valuation):
10x revenue growth → $5.00
20x revenue growth → $10.00
However, if Derive delivers 10–20x revenue growth, would its current ~200x multiple still be justified?
That premium presumably reflects expectations of substantial future growth. Once much of that growth materializes, would investors still be willing to pay the same premium?
Even at 10x revenue growth, a multiple comparable to Hyperliquid's current valuation implies ~$2.40 per DRV.
That's nearly 5x upside, which is impressive, but reaching $5–$10 requires either considerably more revenue growth or maintaining today's ~200x multiple after much of the anticipated growth has already materialized.
And there are three additional considerations:
1. Notional growth has already outpaced fee growth, suggesting declining revenue efficiency.
2. At 100K DRV in weekly staking emissions, ~$2.6M worth of tokens are distributed annually at current prices, compared to ~$3.3M in projected buybacks.
3. Increasing competition could pressure Derive's market share and take rates.
I'm bullish on the growth of onchain options and Derive's position within the sector. However, I think there's a meaningful difference between expecting a protocol to grow substantially and expecting its token to appreciate proportionally.
