🚨In the UK we are facing an unprecedented coalition of hostile states, enormously wealthy far-right individuals prepared to spend many hundreds of £millions to swing elections and a media and social media ecosystem which they almost entirely control. And we are simply not ready for that

Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, American democracy has been unwound at frightening speed.
Analysis by the V-Dem Institute shows the rate of democratic backsliding in the US is faster than we saw in Hungary, India, Russia, or Serbia.
And if we don’t take urgent action it could happen here too

Lord Heseltine, "The number of people aged below 50 who think it was right for us to leave the European Union, is less than 20%
"The latest polls tells us 56% now believe it was mistake to leave the European Union"
Hands up if you are one of the 56% 🙋♂️

The far far far right is losing elections. And voters appear to be losing patience. First Viktor Orbán in Hungary, after 16 years in power. Then Flávio Bolsonaro in Brazil, where voters rejected another attempt to return the Bolsonaro dynasty to the presidency. Now Aleksandar Vučić in Serbia, whose authoritarian grip on the country has been broken by a student-led democratic movement.
Three countries. Three defeats.
And across the Atlantic, Donald Trump’s Republicans are bleeding support.
When a billionaire receives another enormous tax cut, somebody still has to pay for public services. And that somebody is you!
There is only so long you can convince ordinary working people that making the extraordinarily wealthy even wealthier is somehow an act of economic patriotism.
There is something else these defeats suggest. People are growing tired of politicians who admire dictators, attack democratic institutions, manufacture enemies and treat public office as their personal property.
It is 2026. Most people want competent governments, affordable lives and a future for their children. They have remarkably little appetite for aspiring wannabe strongmen.

If you haven’t watched this yet please do.
I don’t care if you are Republican or Democrat, if this doesn’t move you to vote against the current state of affairs nothing will.
Our grandchildren will watch this clip in history class, to better understand the political climate during Trumpism.

🇺🇸 Pete Hegseth just got absolutely humiliated by Senator Tammy Duckworth!
Senator Tammy Duckworth, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who lost both legs while serving in Iraq, challenged Hegseth:
"I'm glad you brought that up. Can you name a single country that belongs to ASEAN and explain what agreement we have with it? And, by the way, how many countries are in ASEAN? Frankly, I'm not sure you even know who our allies are."
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth:
"Well, I can't give you the exact number, but I certainly know our allies in South Korea, Japan, and Australia..."
Senator Duckworth:
"None of the countries you just mentioned are members of ASEAN. I suggest you do your homework before engaging in these discussions."
And this is the kind of clueless bullshit running the Pentagon. Absolutely unbelievable.

Yes, it's true. In 1975, photographer Garry Gross took nude photos of 10-year-old Brooke Shields (posing in a bathtub with makeup and oil, some full-frontal) with her mother Teri's signed consent. They were published in 1976 in the Playboy Press book *Sugar and Spice* (not the magazine), for a $450 fee. Shields later sued unsuccessfully to block further use; courts upheld the parental release as binding.

The party name was propaganda to win workers. Historians like Kershaw and Evans classify Nazism as far-right fascism focused on race and nationalism, not class equality. It banned left parties, crushed unions, purged its left wing, and kept private property under state control. Musk cites the name and economic direction.

No. The "socialist" in the Nazi Party name was propaganda to attract workers. Historians including Ian Kershaw ("Hitler was never a socialist") and Richard Evans classify Nazism as far-right fascism centered on race and nationalism, not class. The regime banned socialist/communist parties, crushed unions, purged its own left wing, and preserved private property under state direction.

Seventeen years ended over dinner. Jack Nicholson looked across the table and said, “Someone is gonna have a baby.” Anjelica Huston knew it wasn’t her. She had tried.
Endometriosis made it impossible. The someone was Rebecca Broussard, a model and actress twenty-six years younger who had appeared in The Two Jakes.
Nicholson said he would stand by the pregnancy. He also said he didn’t want anything to change between them. Huston answered that there was only room for one woman in the picture, and she was retiring from it.
She stayed composed at the table. Later the anger arrived. A Playboy article appeared, describing another of Nicholson’s encounters. Huston went to his bungalow at Paramount.
He was coming out of the bathroom. She hit him—hard—about the head and shoulders while he ducked and bent. She later wrote that she went at him like a prizefighter. They spoke on the phone afterward. He said she had left him bruised all over his body. She said he deserved it. They laughed.
That Christmas he sent a pearl-and-diamond bracelet that had once belonged to Ava Gardner, with a note: “These pearls from your swine. With happiest wishes for the holidays — Enjoy — Yr Jack.”
Huston walked away. By 1991 she was Morticia Addams in The Addams Family and the Grand High Witch in The Witches. She already had an Oscar for Prizzi’s Honor.
In 1992 she married sculptor Robert Graham. They lived in the three-story house he designed in Venice, California, until his death in 2008. She has said she did what she wanted and did it with sureness; she was not a wilting flower.
Nicholson has still called her the love of his life. Their story was never simple. She chose to leave a relationship that diminished her, and she built a life on her own terms. ❤️
We’ve just been. It was utter bliss aged from 8 to 55! Wonderful!
Being a big fan of the BBC series Ghosts, I went to the cinema this afternoon to see the movie version... and it was such an enjoyable experience. The audience laughed all the way through it, which was infectious, so I had many hearty laughs myself. Such a positive feel-good film. Highly recommended. So if you are umming & ahhing about going, do go. You'll enjoy it!

“Indefinite Leave to Remain means you can live on benefits for the rest of your life” says Nigel Farage
Imagine his shock when he finds out just 2.8% of UC claimants have been granted indefinite leave to remain
The comments made by @Nigel_Farage about Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) are complete bull****!
The £200bn figure he uses has no basis in reality and is unsupported by any reliable data - and he knows it.
If UK news shows won’t call this boll**** out let’s do it ourselves

In 1943, the Gestapo finally caught Raymond Aubrac, one of France’s most wanted Resistance leaders. He was sentenced to death and his execution was only days away. At the same time his wife Lucie was six months pregnant with their second child. Most people in her position would have gone into hiding. Lucie decided to do something different.
She got forged identity papers, created a cover story, and walked straight into the office of Klaus Barbie. She looked him in the eye and convinced him to grant her a final visit with her condemned husband. While she was inside she was secretly memorizing the positions of the guards, counting the minutes between patrols, and mapping the exact route the prison truck would take.
On October 21, 1943, that prison truck rolled through the streets of Lyon. Lucie had spent weeks quietly assembling a team of Resistance fighters. When the truck reached the chosen spot her team struck. In the middle of the gunfire and chaos Raymond was pulled free. Lucie, visibly and unmistakably pregnant, had organized every detail of his liberation.
Right after the rescue the couple went into deep hiding. A few weeks later Lucie gave birth to their daughter in a secret safe house while German forces searched for them. They managed to evade capture until the war ended.
When liberation came Raymond became a celebrated engineer and entered public life to help rebuild France. Lucie became a respected historian, pouring decades into making sure the women of the French Resistance were never forgotten. Together they raised three children and grew old side by side. Their marriage lasted 64 years.
Years later journalists asked Lucie what had compelled her to risk everything that October day. She did not hesitate. “He was my husband. What else would I do?”
