The American Popcorn Lung Association is sad to announce its dissolution. We have completed our interviews with all 42 million ecig users worldwide.
It seems none of them have ever developed popcorn lung. @LungAssociation lied to us. It's a shame they won't get that $8,100.

Behold the "whole new generation addicted to nicotine." (It's that kid on the right.)
The public and policymakers are now FAR more concerned about that one kid...
...than they are about the 22 kids on the left who drink alcohol, and 9 kids on the left who binge drink.

What if - just hypothetically - that kid on the right is self-medicating to reduce her undiagnosed and/or untreated #ADHD symptoms?

What the public is told, and what is actually happening, are two different things.
In my experience, this only happens when public perception is being manipulated deliberately.

I graph CDC & FDA data because they don't. I share data from other countries and peer-reviewed papers from researchers with no industry ties. I'm troubled by the current disconnect between public perception and objective reality. And I used to work for the WHO.
Pulmonologist, @meilan_han, opposes nicotine pouches?
Not inhaled. Negligible carcinogens. So no COPD, no lung cancer. No cancer.
And why is she obsessed with teen nicotine "addiction"? The UofM's NIH-funded MTF survey shows teen nicotine use has dropped to a 50-year low.
Matt Myers & @DrTomFrieden think they're involved in a "David and Goliath battle against Big Tobacco." Neither listens to the voices of the millions of real stakeholders.
Their thinking is still stuck in the 1990s (the glory days of Tobacco Control).

I spoke with Matt Myers about advocacy—one of the most powerful tools we have to improve public health, and one he’s spent nearly 30 years mastering as a leader in the tobacco control movement and as the founder and longtime president of @TobaccoFreeKids. youtube.com/watch?v=cUO_PvA0…
Yes. US adult use of deadly cigarettes has dropped below 10% for the first time in 100 years. According to Goldman Sachs and the Federal Trade Commission, US cigarette sales are now dropping >5% per year, FAR faster than historical trends from 1965-2020.
The cigarette smoking rate among U.S. adults fell to a historic low of 9.9% in 2024, down sharply from a high of 42.4% in 1965. @voxdotcom calls it “the most successful health campaign in modern history.” But this battle is far from over.
Tobacco use still kills over 7 million people worldwide and nearly half a million Americans every year. There are persistent disparities in who uses and is harmed by tobacco products, and the tobacco industry is constantly introducing new products to addict a new generation of customers.
We know how to win this fight with proven policies and public education campaigns. They should be fully implemented everywhere.

Thank you for sharing that. It's a myth invented 10 years ago to scare teens away from e-cigarettes. 140 million people now vape nicotine worldwide. There are no vape-induced "popcorn lung" cases. None.

Sadly, we agree. We looked and looked. Out of 114 million adults who vape nicotine worldwide, you'd we could find at least ONE popcorn lung victim. Nope.
We failed. Can't find any. Not one. None. So our grant support dried up and we all lost our jobs. :-(

IF you know that a much safer thing is an effective product substitute for deadly cigarettes...
THEN not making the safer thing more:
- Affordable to people who smoke
- Available to people who smoke
- Acceptable/palatable to people who smoke
IS LITERALLY MURDER
