Installed Project Nomad on a mini pc. Offline knowledge base with local AI agent. One great feature is that you can upload documents for it to analyze and add to the knowledge base. If, like me, you can’t be bothered to RTFM for your radios it means you can ask it and it quickly looks up the answer for you.
I’ve brought my ID-5200 back into the shack to try out some connected Apps. Repeaterbook connected over Bluetooth is quite useful, especially with its map view. Once connected to the radio simply tap on the repeater callsign to set the radio up to use it. I’ll need to get out to see where I can get to from some nearby hills. I’m using a network cable to extend the mic away from the radio and now have an external speaker.
Today, Sarah who seems to be some kind of honorary Sergeant Major or something made us march to the top of the highest point on Exmoor and back down again. Where we allowed to pause at the top and enjoy the beauty of the Exmoor countryside? Nope, about turn and get back down again, which fo some reason involves more up that you would think.
Anyway we rounded it off with Lunch at the Top Ship in Porlock. Always avery wise decision even if the rest of the day felt slightly nuts. Note that it is mandatory to touch the cairn at the top.
Now that my wife has brought my car back I can fit my new Icom ID-5200 into the car. Radio currently under the passenger seat, cables on order so I can move it into the rear of the car, the one thing I dont like about this radio is the need to plug the microphone into the radio body and not the control head. But fortunately I can solve that problem with the addition of a speaker and mic extension cable. At least I hope its as simple as that :-)
ID5200 temporary set up in Wife’s car. Set up DStar to my hotspot in the house. Not my first choice to use a hotspot but it is what it is. No DStar repeaters nearby and only 2 very quiet FM Repeaters. When I get my car back the control head will go on the ram mount with this quick release camera mount. And if I can get 5 minutes off work I’ll go out and use it.
ID-5200 on again this morning, no chance of any activity here at home, even the local repeaters are inactive 99.9% of the time. Had better try and get out mobile later and give it a proper try :-) have not spoken to anyone all week other than my customer 3000miles away on Teams and that’s no fun. Hopefully I can have a sensible conversation on the radio :-)
Installed latest version of Digipi. Amongst many other improvements it now supports DSI screens, so found a use for my Raspberry Pi 7 inch screen. Not used that for a while. Still only me using APRS round here though :-) DigiPi image on Raspberry Pi4, FTM300D and DigiRig Mobile.
Decided to improve the view from my office. Adding bigger windows to the house is out of the question, much easier to chuck the laptop into the trailer and head out to a more remote location on #exmoor. Working here yesterday and today with a seamless transition to a camping weekend later on. :-)
