Very sad with loss of one of the best immunologists, Dr. Emil Unanue. He had built our immunology program as a chair for 20 years and has been a great scientist, mentor and colleague. Fortunate to be a part of the program. RIP. @WUSTLImmuno @wusm_pathology @WUSTLmed @LaskerFDN

Skin conditions can start in the gut, a UCSF study finds: “Factors involved with gut inflammation are actually causing the skin to react differently to the microbes it’s already become accustomed to,” Dr. Tiffany Scharschmidt (@ScharschmidtLab) says. ucsfh.org/3P2nK3K

For K99/R00 recipients, remember to negotiate how much your new department will take from the grant toward your salary. OSU only required 10% salary coverage for me, leaving most of the money for research. I've heard of some schools taking 75%.

I'm really proud & excited to share my first, first-author publication in a review in @cellhostmicrobe with @ScharschmidtLab where we discuss host-microbe interactions in the skin in early life & functional implications! Thanks to everyone for the support!

1/ Hi twitter academia. This is a 🧵on an experience I had at a conference recently. After my oral presentation, I was TOLD that it was not reasonable to pose and test a hypothesis in mice based on observations made in the clinic. I was TOLD this was the WRONG way to do it.

Ever wondered how immune system finds a few specific clones out of millions of T cells? Our 1st paper from my lab @RutgersBHS shows that CD301b+ cDC2s transiently trap naive CD4T cells in the dLN and scan their specificity for timely priming. science.org/doi/10.1126/scii…
