This story is chilling. How many more wake up calls do we need as a society?
“78 children had potentially been harmed after puberty-blocking drugs and cross sex hormones were prescribed to them without proper checks.”
78 children.
When people speak up about potential harms to children, the first response of adults must be to leave no stone unturned in getting to the truth. Fast.

Sir Jeremy Hunt - a former Tory chancellor who campaigned for Remain - says returning to free movement would be a 'hammer-blow' to trying to get people off welfare and into work
He says that there is a risk that it paralyses the government because the issue is so divisive, and that there is an unwritten rule that major constitutional issues should only be returned to once a generation
He tells @bbclaurak: 'We have 1million people not in employment, education or training. The government says it is serious about getting them back into work. To suddenly say you are prepared to negotiate allowing people from all over Europe to come and take those jobs would be a hammer blow to those plans to get people off welfare and into work.
'Whatever your views are on the European issue - and I voted Remain - going back to that old model where employers were giving jobs to people from all over Europe and we were parking people on welfare here must be a step back.
'When you have to have these big, constitutional debates you have to have an unwritten agreement that you are only going to come back to them once in a generation. Otherwise it is so divisive.
'I was at the top of a government that was paralysed for several years while we were trying to wrestle with the implications of that vote. I think that having made a decision we should stick with it.'
Long overdue
🚨 Breaking: After a three year battle, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has finally changed its policy on single-sex spaces for staff to bring it in line with the law.
It is amazing how simple it is! Now all NHS Trusts must urgently follow suit.
Bethany Hutchison, President of the Darlington Nursing Union and lead claimant in the case, said:
“This short sentence in a policy has taken women three years of fear, humiliation and extraordinary personal sacrifice to secure.
“We were nurses asking for the most basic protection: somewhere private and safe to undress at work, away from members of the opposite sex. Instead of listening, the Trust told us to compromise, broaden our mindset and be more inclusive. We were forced out of our own changing room, placed in inadequate facilities, threatened with disciplinary action and made to fear for our jobs and professional careers.
“Vulnerable colleagues were put under intolerable pressure. International nurses feared losing their visas. Women who had experienced domestic abuse were left distressed and afraid. Four of us were reported to our professional regulator simply for speaking publicly about what was happening.
“Throughout it all, the Trust defended a policy it had been warned was unlawful. Even after the Supreme Court clarified the law, it refused to change course. It took a full tribunal judgment, an apology, damages and an enormous bill before the Trust finally wrote biological reality into its policy.
“We welcome this change because it will protect women across the Trust, but it should never have required a three-year legal battle. No nurse should ever again be treated as we were for asking for dignity, privacy and safety.”

Pay attention. I’ve answered this rubbish many times before.
The ‘we must accept responsibility for our imports from China, India etc’. More nonsense. We have no control over the energy networks in those countries. It is their national government’s responsibility. They can choose to burn coal or build renewables not us.
They set up the system and took their eye off the ball. I agree
Replying to @MATatBucks
It wasn't the decision of the country though. The electorate had given the government a clear message that they wanted to lower immigration. The Conservative government made this decision as you say, but against the wishes of many.
I was in Oxford Street yesterday afternoon. I will be really interested to see if this helps or hinders the regeneration of this premier shopping centre. Certainly the proliferation of Candy shops ( money laundering fronts?) didn’t.
Sadly because Laura rarely challenges these sort of absurd statistical claims from Labour MPs. Labour is just trying to build a ‘rejoin’ narrative in people’s minds
Was @AngelaRayner lying, or just ignorant, when she said ‘exports to the EU have fallen 20% since Brexit?’
Why didn’t @bbclaurak challenge her on that?
Well said

In other words, in the face of opposition from Angela Rayner and the Left Labour MPs, Mahmood has capitulated. The Boris wave will be given citizenship and be entitled to both vote ( for Labour of course) and claim Billions £ in benefits.
Compromise incoming? Angela Rayner tells @annemcelvoy @skynews says Shabana Mahmood’s ILR plans “will be fair to the people that come to the country that contribute”
