The hardest part of packing lunch isn't the packing. It's deciding what to pack at 6:30am when you're already running late.
So don't decide. Pick one of these and make it your week.
1️⃣ SANDWICH WEEK
The easiest one. Make them the night before.
- Whole grain bread
- Deli turkey
- Sliced cheese
- Mayo or mustard
- Sides: trail mix, Clif Bars, fruit, protein balls, veggies, etc.
2️⃣ CHICKEN PASTA SALAD
One big batch Sunday, portion it out, done.
- Banza pasta
- Precooked grilled chicken
- English cucumbers
- Grape tomatoes
- Bell peppers
- Mozzarella cheese
- Olive oil and balsamic
3️⃣ CHICKEN AND RICE BOWLS
- Precooked grilled chicken (could even buy a rotisserie chicken)
- Seeds of Change rice
- BBQ sauce
- Raw carrots, bell peppers, and/or cucumbers on the side
Make it Sunday, portion it out, and grab it on your way out the door. No decision, no thinking, no standing in front of the fridge at 6:30 or running on empty.

Leadership has a cost.
Hard decisions. Criticism. Being misunderstood.

Team parents, here's what you need when packing for multiple athletes.
Two categories, and they're not the same:
Before the game, you want fast carbs. Small, easy to digest, nothing that sits heavy while they're running.
→ Orange slices
→ Bananas
→ Applesauce pouches
→ Pretzels
→ Fruit snacks or fruit leather
→ Granola bars
If they have more time before games, Uncrustables, Clif bars and other snacks with a little more protein (but still high carb) work great.
After the game, they need protein with the carbs. This one has a big impact on how well they feel tomorrow.
→ Chocolate milk
→ Beef jerky and crackers/pretzels
→ Trail mix
→ Cheese sticks and a sports drink
→ Carb + protein bars like Clif bars
→
If you can only pack one thing, make it chocolate milk for after. Protein, carbs, and fluids in one bottle, and every kid will actually drink it.
What's in your snack bag right now?

The game has a funny way of reminding you what matters.
The wins are great. The numbers are great. The recognition is great.
But the real gift is getting another day to compete, another day to work, another day to do what you love.
Never take the opportunity for granted.

A player could get a Hit in all 162 games…for 26 straight seasons…and he’d still be 44 Hits shy of Pete Rose
😂
During a game that Glavine, Jones, McCann and Smoltz were in the booth together, Pete Alonso got smoked in the ribs and Jones said Pete taking it like a man.
Shortly after, that led Chipper showing a throwback clip of Smoltz getting hit by a pitch from Mark Thompson and flopping like a fish
Hilarity ensues.

When I was in high school, there was another player on my team.
He was one of the best players.
(He's on the left in this pic below)
So was I.
Half the team thought he was better than me.
The other half thought I was better than him.
We weren't best friends.
But we pushed each other every single day.
If I backhanded a ground ball...
He backhanded one.
If I barehanded a ball...
He did too.
If I benched 225...
He wanted 230.
If he beat me...
I wanted to beat him.
We weren't trying to tear each other down.
We were forcing each other to become better.
Years later...
He was drafted out of high school.
I went to UCLA and eventually got drafted.
Looking back, I realized something.
Iron sharpens iron.
Sometimes the greatest gift you can have isn't another coach.
It's someone who's chasing the same dream as you.
Someone who refuses to let you coast.
Someone who raises your standard just by showing up.
That's why I'm creating Iron Partners for the players I coach.
I'll pair players together so they can challenge each other, encourage each other, and push each other to become the best version of themselves.
Because competition doesn't always create enemies.
Sometimes...
It creates excellence.
Thank you for reading.
