I had the honor of speaking at today's Celebration of Impact Awards, where Sophia Chen, a graduate of Cutler Bay Senior High, was named @UnitedWayMiami's 2026 Outstanding Youth Award recipient. That's the kind of student our schools produce. Congratulations, Sophia, and thank you to every @MDCPS school and student who showed up for this year's campaign.

A simple hello can be the difference between a student feeling alone and feeling seen. That's what Sandy Hook Promise's Start With Hello week is all about. As Superintendent, this message is deeply personal to me after bringing this vital program to Ferguson Senior High.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. This morning, I joined JROTC cadets and community leaders in the courtyard at South Dade Senior High to remember nearly 3,000 lives lost and the firefighters, police, and everyday citizens who ran toward danger to save others. #NeverForget

In my first op-ed as Superintendent, I wanted to share directly with our community why I stepped into this role and what will anchor our work moving forward.  As I reflect on our mission, one sentence stays front and center: "Behind every decision we make is a child whose future depends on it." To everyone who showed up and reminded me exactly why this work matters: thank you! Tomorrow, the work continues because Miami-Dade’s children deserve nothing less. #TheFutureBeginsTogether

At the end of the ceremony, we counted down together. Five for every dream waiting to be discovered. Four for every educator ready to inspire. Three for every family who trusts us. Two for every partner standing with us. One for ONE Miami-Dade. Then zero, because there is zero time to waste when a child's future is on the line. #TheFutureBeginsTogether

Today, I had the pleasure of speaking to the Miami-Dade community, but I don’t stand here alone. My family, our School Board, and the entire community carried me to this moment, and I'm grateful for every one of them. Now, Miami-Dade, let's get to work. #TheFutureBeginsTogether

Join me at one our upcoming town hall meetings where I'll listen, learn, and share more about our shared vision. You’ll also learn about the upcoming Secure our Future Referendum on the November ballot. The future begins together.

I was born to be an educator. Today I get to serve the District that made me one. To every student, teacher, staff member, and family in M-DCPS: I'm ready. Let's get to work!
