Consumers spend their phone time connecting, listening, buying and playing, so a mobile-first strategy is the baseline.
The results indicate that gender differences should play a greater role in the design of mobile phone services in Japan. They also show that mobile phones have become all-in-one destinations for connection, entertainment and commerce.
The same goes for video streaming — globally, 71% (men) / 70% (female) vs. Japan, 55% (men) / 51% (women) — and for music — globally (75%/76%) vs. Japan (70%/75%).
Whilst, globally, 72% of male respondents and 69% of female respondents said they regularly play games on their phone, the gap in Japan was much greater: 68% and 60% respectively.
According to MEF's lastest Consumer Survey results, women in Japan are significantly more likely to engage with social media, music and online shopping when on their phones and men are more likely to be gaming or streaming video.
