The 40.9% is for full TJ surgeries (or TJ + internal brace). I try to track brace only surgeries separately. If I included those there would be at least a dozen more pitchers. Also Andrew Nardi, William Kempner, Blade Tidwell all had UCL surgery this year, but type is unknown.

Great to see. I have tracked 1370 Tommy John surgeries for professional players who did eventually return to the same level of baseball. Only 8 endured through longer returns than the 49 months here.

A Letter from Tommy John: I want to thank the Yankees organization & the Steinbrenner family for giving me this opportunity to say goodbye to everyone, along with all the friends & fans who followed me throughout my 26-year career. Thanks to Dr. Jobe, who saved my arm & made it possible for me to continue pitching. That surgery has since gone on to save the careers of countless pitchers, including many of the very best in the game today. Thank you to all the fans who supported me & my teammates for 26 years. Assuming I ran the Baseball Savant query correctly, this would be quite wild... Brandon Sproat in the first inning tonight became the first pitcher to ever get Luis Arraez to swing and miss on three straight pitches in an at-bat. Arraez has nearly 4,000 big league PA.
