Thank you @budlight and @DustinPoirier for making my day. Finally got to meet my favorite fighter of all time. Absolutely amazing fighter, and an even better person. #UFCX #UFC303

I received this note from a veteran official who has been a referee for hundreds of events, including UFC events, regarding the position where Moicano was stood up: A body triangle is a dominant position that restricts the opponent’s movement and creates opportunities for submissions, particularly the rear-naked choke. Even without strikes, hand fighting, wrist control and attempts to secure a choke are legitimate offensive activity. Standing fighters up simply because there are no strikes unfairly removes an earned positional advantage. If a fighter doesn’t have an answer for the position then they stay there and get out of the position when the round is finished.

The UFC isn’t a sports league, it’s an episodic reality tv series — If it were a sports league, your recent success rate, overall win/loss record, and meritocracy would determine everything. The rules aren’t laws, they’re broad suggestions — if they were laws, punishment would be uniform and consistent, repercussions would be anticipatory. The officiating is neither fair nor just, it’s sporadic and unpredictable (which costs fighters money) — if the referees were reliable arbiters, their fingerprints wouldn’t be on the final result so frequently. The rankings carry no meaning or actual weight, they’re promotional tools — if they were legitimate, being a #1 contender would be a guarantee at the next title opportunity (#1 not available? Hello #2, etc). Instead we skip to #8 to fit a narrative or appease a target audience. The belts have no relevance, they’re trinkets awarded on whim — if they were signifiers of the best in a given division, we wouldn’t be inundated with interim and vacant title bouts (X is only the champ because Y left to go to Z weight class, etc). They’re taken away and handed out at the company’s behest. As soon as the incentive of PPV points was gone and we started defending interim championships… the plot was lost. The UFC is no longer an MMA “promotion” built around a concept of “The Best vs The Best”, it’s a content provider with a massive quota to meet, and a marketing platform for ad space — a weekly conveyor belt of warm bodies, faces without names, where each new fighter on a 10k & 10k DWCS contract represents an accomplished combatant, on the other end of the spectrum, not being paid their worth. Real-time profit maximization at the expense of the athletes, the sport, and the viewer. All that matters, though, is that there’s a UFC card nearly every Saturday, chock full of cheap talent who are ready and willing to throw caution to the wind, so the mindless masses have something to pump cash into the sportsbooks over… and don’t forget that sweet, sweet 7-hour window of prime ad space to sell off to the highest bidder. We’re watching the closest thing to full contact pro wrestling that has ever been produced. And they think we don’t notice. #OneLastThing 📝

It is official. The UFC is the new WWE now. Dan Miragliota stood Renato Moicano up after the fans were booing them despite Moicano being in a dominant position and working off Nolan’s back. This has never happened before & most definitely won’t be forgotten. Fire Dan. #UFCVegas123

*Tony Stark randomly comes back to life* Tony: "So what'd I miss?" Rhodey: "Well...I was replaced by an alien, Steve left the universe but became old in the past, human beings are mutating with superpowers, New York was almost swallowed by shadows, Bruce's cousin became a Hulk, the president became a Hulk, Bruce has a son who is a Hulk, Wanda became a serial killer before a mountain fell on her, Thor is fathering the daughter of a serial killer, there are two Hawkeyes and the entirety of reality is collapsing." Tony: "...what?" Rhodey: "Oh and Ultron is still alive and he made out with another robot the other day." Tony:

41 years ago today Dusty Rhodes cut the legendary ‘HARD TIMES’ promo: “Hard times are when the textile workers around this country are out of work, and got four or five kids, and can't pay the wages, can't buy the food, hard times, or when the auto workers are out of work, and they tell them, go home, and hard times are when a man is working a job, 30 years, 30 years. They give him a watch, kick him in the butt, and say, hey, a computer took your place, daddy” (1985)

I actually found it strange from the very beginning, too… Everyone seemed oddly united and awfully quick to tear the film to shreds. And DIGGER itself provides the answer: Control the narrative!🪏 Thanks to @OutrageOptimism @tomcarnac @CFigueres 👌 @TomCruise @diggerthemovie
