Replacing gas with renewables for California’s electricity has reduced twice the carbon as all the world’s carbon capture projects Just to give an idea of how insanely useless carbon capture and direct air capture are, consider the following. All 77 of the world’s carbon-capture facilities capture about 64 million tonnes of CO2 per year. But a quarter of that CO2 is added back to the air from the energy needed to capture and pipe the CO2 and more is added back because 82 percent of all CO2 captured is used to dig more oil out of the ground, a process that releases 85 percent of the captured CO2 back to the air. Accounting for both leaves a net of only 19 million tonnes of CO2 per year captured. Yet from 2023 to 2026, California’s main electricity grid replaced 61 percent of its fossil gas with wind-water-solar electricity plus imports, which themselves are 57 percent wind-water-solar. This replacement of gas has eliminated 38 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent per year, or twice the current world net carbon capture rate. What is more, replacing the gas has also eliminated the mining and processing of the gas, the health costs of the air pollution from mining and burning the gas, and the need for and cost of capture equipment and carbon dioxide pipelines. Carbon capture and direct air capture only increase air pollution health damage, mining, pipelines, and costs. Plus, a single dollar spent on carbon capture simply increases carbon dioxide relative to spending the same dollar on renewables replacing a fossil source. The bottom line is that we should invest in electrification and replacing fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy instead of subsidizing carbon capture, direct air capture, and related gimmicks. WindWaterSolar smashes two more records on the @CaliforniaISO grid Wed Jun 17, 2026: 29.5 GW of WWS peak output (previous record 28.3 GW, so record beat by 1.2 GW) 467.92 GWh of daily WWS output (previous record 433.88 GWh) WWS output growth and batteries are crushing gas out of the system. Gas down 61%, batteries up 337% in 2026 v 2023 143 of 168 (85.1%) days in 2026 with WWS meeting >100% of demand.

The full capacity from two major New England wind projects could have cut costs by $2.3 million a day during the January winter storm that hit the region. The U.S. administration prevented this capacity from reaching the grid. Op-ed for @BulletinAtomic: hubs.li/Q0487CjC0

Great news from California! Rather than investing billions of dollars in the natural gas system in Massachusetts, we should be investing in energy independence in the form of wind/solar/batteries.
Another massive battery storage record in California (CAISO) yesterday, March 29 🔋 At 7pm, batteries reached 12.3 GW of output, meeting 42.8% of demand! And it's not just a short peak anymore. Batteries stayed above 20% of grid supply from 5.50pm to 9.35pm, almost four hours.

The war with Iran has shown the energy independence, achieved with wind/solar/batteries/geothermal, is the only way to ensure long term affordability goals. Blue state governors should be leading on this and not bowing to the gas lobby.
BREAKING: Climate Activists are taking over the capital to DEMAND @GovKathyHochul doesn’t gut New York’s landmark climate law. Instead of investing in solar and LOWERING OUR UTILITY BILLS Hochul is caving to oil and gas lobbyists and BURNING THE PLANET.

California is proof you don’t have to choose between a strong economy and clean energy. The world’s 4th largest economy has run on clean power 9 out of 10 days, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions 21% and growing 81%.

This! And that doesn't include the cost of cancers that people get from nuclear waste.

The cost of grid-scale solar plus batteries has become so cheap that spreading solar power out over 24 hours is now cost-competive with building new natural gas plants in many cases. ember-energy.org/latest-insi…

Gas utilities in Boston get paid $7 million dollars a mile to replace an old gas pipe with a new pipe in Boston. You can see why gas utilities would choose that option over being paid $20,000 a mile to repair the pipe. And who ultimately pays those costs? Anyone with a gas bill.
GSEP=one of the biggest cost pressures on MA gas bills. Utility spending has TRIPLED since 2014, reaching $901M on new pipes this year. Every dollar directly raises your rates. Legislators need to address what’s really making energy unaffordable #mapoli vist.ly/4i7vj

In 3 yrs this #solar installation at an Arkansas high school turned the district’s budget from a $250K deficit to a $1.8 million surplus. They're using the surplus to pay teachers more We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #ClimateAction #climate #NoWarNoWarming

#MaPoli this could be you too.
NEW: California now has nearly 17,000 megawatts of battery storage – reaching one-third of the way to our 2045 goal. We're deploying more battery storage than any state in America, building a stronger grid, cutting pollution, and securing a safer future for our nation.

While India invests in clean energy, #Mapoli House energy bill will roll back our MA 2030 climate goals, clean energy through the RPS, & MassSave incentives, all the while expanding expensive pipelines & raising energy bills. Call ur MA House Rep & tell them you oppose the H 4744
Good news from 🇮🇳 India!

The #Mapoli House just put out an energy bill to enrich fossil fuel interests and be more costly to Massachusetts residents and ratepayers. Vote no on this expensive House Bill 3469. acadiacenter.org/proposed-le…

This is truly mind-blowing: Norway has gone from near-zero sales of non‑emitting battery electric vehicles to now close to 100% of all new passenger car sales—achieved in about 13 years. What makes this transformation remarkable isn’t just the headline number, but how it happened: - Clear long‑term policy signals (tax incentives, toll exemptions, parking perks) that made EVs the rational default. - Serious charging infrastructure—fast chargers along highways and dense urban coverage—reducing range anxiety. - Collaboration across government, utilities, automakers, and consumers to remove friction at every step. - A consistent focus on total cost of ownership, not just sticker price.
