On this day, in 2020, the world lost one of the greatest drummers of all time. Neil Peart, the drummer for Rush, one of the best trios of all time, again. Neil Ellwood Peart was 67 when he passed away and he produced some incredible music for more than 50 years. He was not just a drummer, he was the main lyricist of Rush. You can find traces of Neil Peart on almost all Rush songs that you listen today. He drew most of his inspiration from drummers such as Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, and John Bonham, players who at the time were at the forefront of the British hard rock scene. After some time, he began to emulate jazz and big band musicians Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. In 1994, Peart became a friend and pupil of jazz instructor Freddie Gruber. It was during this time that Peart revamped his playing style by incorporating jazz and swing components. In honour of Neil Peart, here's a remastered version of his "Neil Peart Presents: The Rhythm Method". He performs live in Toronto, in 1997.
