Where's that @uoftmedicine ? We're looking really hard to find it, and we can't seem to. Are we only tokens to you? Does excellence only come through equity when it is convenient for you?

Remember when @uoftmedicine posted this story documenting Black History in the Making? applymd.utoronto.ca/news/bla
and the time where they put my face on their financial aid/fundraising campaign? Or the time they created BSAP to pioneer excellence through equity?

Let's amplify this #MedTwitter Donate to support a brilliant medical student at UofT and a member of the BMSAC family, Noroh. Finances should not be the reason an amazing student and person does not achieve their goals. Donate, share, amplify! gofundme.com/f/Noroh-Medical

Although I appreciate the approach Queen's has begun to take, I do wish more was addressed on how these Black and Indigenous students will be properly supported at a school that is known to have blatant issues with racism especially for undergrads: instagram.com/p/CC1NDO9BUqo/
Queen’s Accelerated Route to Medical School is unique in Canada, providing a pathway to med school for high school students. Going forward, its 10 seats will be designated for Black Canadians & Indigenous peoples. Read about this exciting change: bit.ly/30Nc6BU

Writing is healing and I'm grateful to have shared my honest reflection with @NEJM
A lack of competency in engaging with Black patients is the reality in Canada, where Black communities have been undertreated for their pain and have reported barriers to Covid-19 testing. Reforming medical education and addressing institutional racism are the answers. #COVID19

"The restriction of debate... invariably hurts those who lack power and makes everyone less capable of democratic participation." The irony is that "debate" and "democracy" are already hurting those who lack power, they've just never noticed or cared until they were offended.
A statement signed by 150 people incl. Bill T. Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Jennifer Finney Boylan, Noam Chomsky, J.K. Rowling, Margaret Atwood, and Salman Rushdie expresses concern over the illiberal trend intensified by our national reckoning. harpers.org/a-letter-on-just

this verdict shows how difficult it is for Black people to get fair decisions through the courts. they can't provide justice for us. the abolition of police AND our court systems will allow us to build systems of true accountability I know this hurts--let's hold each other today

for everyone interested in what the phrase “defunding the police” means, where it comes from, and how it is different from reforming the police, please watch the above recorded webinar and look at this graphic from @C_Resistance.

Here it is. Plainly stated: we are prepared to accept the deaths of migrant farm workers in order to maintain the “integrity” of the supply chain and the profits of a few.
