1/ Druckenmiller's first mentor, Speros Drelles, would often tell him that "60 million Frenchman can't be wrong."
Here's a thread on what that means and how to know when you should listen to or ignore the "Frenchman" (market)...

There's a lot of evidence coming out in the press and via public statements by elected officials like Chris Murphy and the President himself that should make all of us very worried about what this administration is planning and how far it is willing to go to prolong this war.

An announcement that is as personal as professional:
18 months ago, we started collecting online prices in real time to track how Liberation Day tariffs were feeding into inflation.
A lot has happened since. The BLS commissioner was fired. The longest government shutdown in US history meant CPI wasn’t published for the first time. And the case for an independent measure of inflation became much stronger.
What started as a tariff inflation tracker has since grown into something much bigger:
The Bloomberg Price Project (BPP), our attempt to build the US CPI from the ground up using alternative data.
Today, BPP covers 87% of the CPI basket, across both goods and services (more new data will be added in coming weeks). Every month, we collect millions of prices from card transactions, e-commerce sites, grocery stores, pharmacies, rental listings, corporate data, Bloomberg Terminal market prices and government records. And more data are coming.
The payoff is detail. Official CPI data let you drill down to categories such as “uncooked beef steaks.” BPP goes much deeper — breaking the CPI basket into almost 700 line items, compared with roughly 200 in the official data.
Brought to you by: myself, Troy Durie, Daniel Ripperger-Suhler, Joshua Danial and Scott Johnson from across Bloomberg Economics.
Explore the Bloomberg Price Project at BECO MODELS BPP <GO>, or download the data at ECAN US BPI <GO>.
I believe the paywall on Bloomberg.com is coming down briefly so you can read this without a subscription (but you should subscribe!)

When the defence industry normies are freaking out, its a big problem.
If a nuclear weapon were used on Pick Axe mountain in Iran by the US or Israel or an empty field in Ukraine by Russia etc, it doesn’t matter, it would open up Pandora’s box and would make the U.S. and the world dramatically less safe. This isn’t even a question of how big of a disaster the use, in any manner, of a nuclear weapon would be. It would represent the largest foreign policy error ever by the United States if we were involved. We can only hope this claim isn’t accurate in any way.
Not often I find myself retweeting Tucker, but I've been hearing the same thing from my network. Crazy actors are forcing us into a very precarious position. This is not good.
Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran. The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place. The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer.
Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war.
To that end, he’s applied maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. Both oppose a negotiated settlement to the war they’ve so grievously mismanaged; both are pushing to restart major combat operations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA director John Ratcliffe are also following Netanyahu’s lead, as are leaders of the Democratic Party. In a recent meeting on the subject, former president Barack Obama said he opposes the current Iran peace deal being drafted in Doha.
The rest of America’s longtime allies in the Middle East are terrified by the prospect of more war. On September 27th, Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused. After eight months of conflict, Gulf economies are teetering. So are global energy and fertilizer markets. They won’t recover soon. Globally, there are a total of about 850 supertankers used to transport oil from producers to the rest of the world. In October alone, 11 of them were badly damaged in Hormuz. At this pace, a global depression is imminent. A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people.
And those are just some of the immediate consequences for the region. The rest of the world is every bit as exposed. No country other than the United States has ever used a nuclear weapon in war. Some would like to. An American nuclear attack on Iran would set a new precedent. The Russians have already told at least two other governments that an American nuclear strike on Iran would free them to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Pakistan and India would be tempted to do the same against each other, as would North Korea against Seoul. After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final.
We’ve been sleepwalking toward this moment for months. Since February, the administration has quietly rewritten America’s nuclear doctrine to make first use of so-called “battlefield nukes” easier and therefore more likely. No one in Washington in either party seems bothered by this. Now we’re on the brink of it.
Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made.
They’re right, though it won’t be simple. The Iranians are famously frustrating to negotiate with under any circumstances, and elements of that government have become more radical since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in February. After decades of isolation, even relatively moderate Iranian leaders seem confused by how decisions are made in the West. (There is a widespread belief in Tehran, for example, that the United States government controls Israel.) But overall, people who have spoken to decision-makers in Iran say there is consensus there that more war is bad for everyone and a deal is worth making.
One group that hasn’t been consulted so far is the global population — the hundreds of millions of people who will be killed along with their children if Trump is pushed by Netanyahu into launching a nuclear strike next week. Now would be the time for them to speak up.

The Taliban told me about every CIA meeting they had about invading Iran.
The first is that the US desperately wanted Bagram airbase back. It was the biggest US airbase in the world.
The US approached the Minister of defense & the Minister of foreign affairs about offering a blank cheque essentially.
The Taliban basically told them directly
“listen even if we did want the money, half of our forces would join Isis if we let you back in the country to bomb Iran from our soil”
The next attempt was a CIA mossad operation where they sent in an Israeli with a Spanish passport who posed as a muslim. They said they would supply the Taliban with unlimited armament if they invaded Iran from the West and allowing them to keep the land and prosper from the oil.
The guy was put under surveillance and was found emailing an embassy about this plan to get Iran invaded on a two front war. He was detained and admitted he was Israeli lol.
Some meetings I can’t speak about but they’re all pretty funny.
The Taliban heavily believe Iran will be invaded within 1 month

A barrage of earnings reports sent shockwaves through the technology sector, driving another significant decline on Friday. Nowhere was the damage more pronounced than in semiconductor stocks, with 72% of the group falling 5% or more in a single session. This type of price action has become increasingly common, potentially signaling that distribution is taking hold following the group's enormous multi-year advance. In fact, over the past five months, dating back to the group's June peak, days when 50% of semis fell 5% or more have reached 11. As the chart below shows, this threshold was reached only twice before: December 2008 and July 2000.

A week like this one lights up every screen on a portfolio manager’s desk. Each demands action. Each sounds certain.
This week’s essay is about where his attention goes when the market seems to force his hand, and what the managers who have lasted decades do differently.
In markets: energy kept rising while agriculture fell. January Brent moved higher and December WTI crude drifted toward its 2x target. December lean hogs cascaded through their target in textbook fashion, January orange juice broke down, and silver closed the week at a critical juncture. In equities, Cheniere Energy broke out on earnings, and energy names continue to lead the screen.

I fully believe Bari Weiss when she says she doesn't care about collapsing ratings. The only reason to care about ratings is profit, and that's not why Larry Ellison, at the age of 82, suddenly went on a frantic shopping spree to purchase Hollywood's studios (Paramount and Warner Bros), news outlets (CBS, CNN), and social media (TikTok).
Ellison is the second-richest man on earth. He is not motivated by money-making in the last stage of his life. He bought all these news and entertainment outlets to turn them into Israeli State TV, to try to stem the rising disgust Americans harbor for Israel.
Ellison is one of Netanyahu's best friends. He's the single-largest donor to Friends of the IDF. His only political cause is Israel. All the key people he and his son hired as Israel loyalists. So Bari Weiss is telling the truth: her job isn't to increase ratings but to convert CBS into Zionist propaganda.
During her on-stage interview, according to the article, Bari Weiss dismissed concerns about weak ratings at 60 Minutes by saying: “I could never build anything if I were focused on the precise number of people that happen to tune in to the second feature on 60 Minutes on a given Sunday.” theinformation.com/articles/…

Holy pumpkin! Nasdaq 100 $QQQ gapped down 2.5%, while Financials opened higher. The only 3 prior occurrences were during 2000 dot-com.
Following first signal on April 11, the S&P 500 $SPX plunged 10% in 3 days. Looks like tech stocks just wished everyone a spooky Halloween.

From 1995 to 2000, technology sub-industries experienced 36 independent drawdowns of 20% or more, compared with 22 since 2024. With that in mind, don't rule out further, potentially more painful drawdowns—a common feature of major innovation cycles.

Trump is reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election.
Some of us have been briefed on the war plan. And while I cannot disclose any details, I can say this: the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.

This is insane.
Dear Director Patel @FBIDirectorKash,
In 2024 I sat in Alon Alexander’s mansion in Miami Beach with the brothers, their father, the rest of the family, and a disbarred attorney who went to federal prison for helping drug traffickers obstruct justice, and I was told it was gang initiation time.
My target was Evan Torgan, the attorney representing the women who had come forward against Oren, Tal, and Alon Alexander. The family believed Torgan was being paid to orchestrate the women and extort them. I was asked what my connections were to the FBI and the Department of Justice. Oren told me they had already hired another private intelligence operative to gather information on the women. They could see an indictment coming.
The disbarred attorney was Samuel Burstyn. He served 42 months for conspiracy to obstruct justice on behalf of a drug trafficking organization. That is when I stopped thinking of it as an intelligence job and started thinking about what could physically happen to Evan Torgan.
I said no. I called Evan Torgan and warned him. Then I contacted the FBI, told your agents what I had seen, and handed over every electronic communication between me, the brothers, and the family. That is part of what I heard in that house. I am leaving out the rest on purpose, because I will not put anything in public that could hurt an investigation.
Yesterday the brothers were sentenced to 30 years each. Judge Caproni called what they did monstrous. She was right. But that sentence closes only half of this case.
The other half is in the Peacock documentary The Wolves of Real Estate: The Alexander Brothers, and I did not understand its full extent until I watched it. The film reports that a victim was told by an investigator that her children had been mentioned. Victim 4 dropped out.
Director Patel, that is not crisis PR. That is not intelligence gathering. That is a woman who reported a rape being told that someone knows where her children are. I believe it was witness intimidation, and I believe it was criminal.
I am asking you to open an investigation into the PR firms, the investigation agencies, and the individual investigators who were paid to target, discredit, and intimidate these women and their lawyer, and where the evidence supports it, to charge them.
I am also asking you to widen the case. Oren told me about other billionaires. He told me about a victim being held in a dungeon in a billionaire’s house in the Hamptons. I cannot prove what he said. You can. The brothers did not operate alone, and I believe there are more victims who were silenced by exactly this machinery. The people who helped this family, protected it, and hunted its accusers should not get to watch the sentencing on the news and go back to work.
These women did their part. They spoke, and they were hunted for it. The brothers who raped them got 30 years. The people who hunted them got paid.
Fix that.
Respectfully,
Everett Stern

Available cash on the NYSE as a % of market cap is at its lowest level in history.
Investors are essentially "all in," with leverage adding to the risk.
With interest rates this high, a mean reversion seems increasingly likely.
Definitely not an ideal time to build a long-term position at these levels.

Markets have a busy day ahead of them with FOMC this afternoon followed by $GOOGL and $MSFT earnings after the close. As always, it's not the news that matters but the market reaction.
As for today's early action, Russell small caps have taken back leadership from the Nasdaq, but it's the semis running alongside the Russell this morning not the banks. The megas are mixed with most of the Mag 7 red, but that's not enough to keep VOLs bid. VIX is well into the 17s now and VIX futures are all headed lower.
Both market models continue to improve, a sign that market structure is improving (HRV model) and acute stressors are relaxing (EWS model). Their respective 10-session moving averages are also trying to flip in the constructive direction.
All of this could change today, but it's encouraging to go into these events with markets in a more stable place than they were just a week or two ago.
