Collection Sources are live in Layers!! You can now use any combination of metrics or product attributes to create sources that can be used to build Shopify collections.

Friday: a merchant asked if they could merch a collection page differently based on which hero carousel slide a shopper clicked. Today: shipped. Any Layers condition can now use theme clicks. Pick a Shopify theme → template → section → even a single button group.

Do you know how much money we'd save if @ShopifyDevs just exposed the suggest category metafields via API? A LOT, approaching 100b token usage simply on classifying and filling out native category metafields, we're dogfooding them now and using across the platform

I cannot wait to rip this apart with Lukas. I didn’t have a great deal of hope until I saw TTFB being measured. If you know me you know that many theme TFFB is horrible and far more impactful than the bazillion apps a storefront runs shopify.dev/docs/storefronts…

AI search shouldn’t be a black box. We just shipped a new view in Layers that shows merchants exactly how our models understand their products and Shopify data. One of my favorite examples is a charm product with 12 sports as variants. To Shopify, it’s one product. But a shopper looking for a basketball charm isn’t necessarily looking for lacrosse or tennis. Layers recognizes that and indexes each sport as its own item. You can now see those decisions directly in the dashboard, including which variants, tags, collections, and metafields Layers determined were actually relevant to the product. And if we get something wrong, merchants can flag it and send the product back through classification. Better AI search starts with actually understanding the catalog.
