What is Magistracy Monthly?
A Thread
This is intended to help new and old readers alike learn about Magistracy Monthly, what it is, how it came to be, how you can submit content, and much more.
Magistracy Monthly was chosen as the name for two reasons.
BattleMechs Through the Years #36: The STG-3R Stinger
In 2471, the WSP-1A Wasp became the first true modern BattleMech, using newly designed armor and components that left the more primitive technology of the thirty or so years prior in the dust.
Eight years later in 2479, the STG-3R Stinger debuted, designed and produced by Earthwerks Incorporated. A direct competitor to the Wasp, it became the second mass-produced twenty ton scout 'Mech in history.
The Stinger shared a number of similarities to the Wasp. On top of weighing twenty tons, they were both powered by a 120 fusion engine, which shared a top speed of 97.2 kph. Both were also equipped with six jump jets, allowing them to leap up to 180 meters at a time. Finally, both 'Mechs were plated with three tons of standard armor protection.
The Stinger did differentiate itself in terms of armament at least. While the WSP-1A carried a medium laser and an SRM-2, the STG-3R was equipped with a medium laser and two machine guns. This gave it the slightest edge against infantry over the Wasp, but both were still excellent designs for the primary purpose of reconnaissance.
The Stinger was so similar to the Wasp that General Mechanics, the designer of the latter, sued Earthwerks Incorporated for trademark infringement. The suit ended up going nowhere and the Stinger joined the Wasp in large numbers in the Terran Hegemony's armed forces.
The mass-produced STG-3R Stinger quickly gained popularity, just like the Wasp before it. It became one of the most widely used scout 'Mechs and found its way into nearly every single armed force in the Inner Sphere and Periphery. It was so successful that it was still being used in the ilClan era, with the 'Mech still numbering in the thousands across dozens of armies.

BattleMechs Through the Years #35: The BWP-2E Ymir
The prototype Ymir debuted in 2462 and it took until 2475 for the first modern version to be produced. From there, it took only three years for the first modern variant - the BWP-2E - to be unveiled.
The BWP-2E made the Ymir into a sniper with a more simplified but even deadlier weapons loadout. It removed everything the BWP-2B had in terms of weaponry. The AC-5, large laser and small laser were taken away entirely, while the missile launchers were condensed and upgraded. The two LRM-5 launchers were replaced by a single LRM-10, while an SRM-6 replaced the four SRM-2s. In place of the autocannon and lasers were two hard-hitting particle projector cannons.
Despite carrying dual PPCs, the BWP-2E model was only equipped with sixteen single heat sinks, meaning that overheating was a serious problem for most pilots. The armor was also fairly light for a 90 tonner, with the 'Mech only being plated in 11 tons of protection.
Despite its flaws, the Ymir served as a symbol of early Lyran BattleMech production and pride, with the BWP-2E model being used through the Star League era and into the early Succession Wars, before its production line was destroyed. The surviving models were all destroyed by the time the Succession Wars ended.

My boss has been touching me inappropriately lately. I was gonna go to the HR department but then I remembered...
...I'm self employed.
Got my first settlement in No Man's Sky.
Was having a lot of fun but then this guy named Preston Garvey showed up and now he won't stop bothering me about other settlements...
Completed my first expedition. It was perfect timing too. As someone who played in 2016 at launch and then gave up, coming back 10 years later to a mission chain that shows you everything you can do now is amazing and insightful.
So I've basically learned that now within No Man's Sky, you can basically play Kerbal Space Program, Death Stranding, Fallout 4 (settlements), Pokemon, Stardew Valley, and probably a few dozen other game systems.
Sean and his team at @hellogames truly have made this game something special over the last ten years and I'm excited to be playing again. Can't wait to see where the ride takes me.
And thanks to @siegetech74 who provided helpful guidance along the way as I dove back in.
I am not proud of how long it took me to realize that the voice of Spears in MW5: Mercs (@EliasToufexis) is also the voice of Leonidas and Dad in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, a game in which I have almost as much time in as I do MW5.
Forgot to post these yesterday. Found this planet with these cool see-thru neon critters. Took one on as a pet. Never seen anything like it before. (Granted, I'm new to NMS all over again considering I haven't played since 2016.)
