25yrs ago today, I started my HEMS career and I still have the privilege to work with the best colleagues. Still trying to keep the patient at the centre of it all; still frustrated sometimes by our limits; still learning new lessons; and still supported by an incredible family.
New USAR Medical Team recruits being put through their paces with @UK_ISAR_TEAM this week
Slightly damp for an evening exercise this week @UK_ISAR_TEAM Rain went on for an hour. Discussion about whether lying under a train offers Faraday Cage protection. Thought we might find out.
Bumpy wet old night for flying a patient into Birmingham @uhbtrust with @MAA_Charity tonight. Thanks @OFFICIALWMAS and @MARSmedicalteam for the hard work before we got involved.
Another thought-provoking talk by @Kevin_Fong at today’s @airambulancekss clinical governance day today, this one about systems. “We should continue to have infinite curiosity about our failures; which is not the same as believing we can, or must, solve them all.”
It’s been a privilege to work with @UK_ISAR_TEAM once more and to lead our dedicated medical crew. A small contribution to the huge effort required to rebuild this incredible and beautiful place and to support the remarkable Moroccan people. Going home for now, but will be back.
Tried to get into a remote village in #Morocco at 7000ft this morning that remains isolated since the earthquake. @UK_ISAR_TEAM as part of multinational team. Unfortunately conditions (severe turbulence), as yesterday, precluded landing but pilots made the safe call. @FCDOGovUK
Members of @UK_ISAR_TEAM help a patient with an open ankle fracture from the earthquake, extricating from a remote village to the nearest road to meet an ambulance, then hospital. Incredible resilience and stoicism of the Moroccans. @FCDOGovUK (yes, I know I have a watch on)
One of four specialist search dogs deployed with @UK_ISAR_TEAM in #Morocco, Davey working hard yesterday afternoon, searching part of a remote collapsed village in the mountains. @FCDOGovUK
Working with our Moroccan friends as part of the British rescue response, @UK_ISAR_TEAM are heading into the mountains again today, a long drive ahead to our search area. Team rested and ready to go. @FCDOGovUK
Intense few days with @UK_ISAR_TEAM deploying as part of the British rescue effort to support #Morocco. 62 personnel with 4 search dogs arrived last night, set up base overnight at #Amizmiz and then went out all day on taskings. Well-needed sleep now before more at first light.
Attended young adult this morning, out all night in the rain, ?confused, moving all limbs but not quite right. Near a road but no sign of major trauma. c-spine showed nearly 360 degree range of movement. Pupils enormous but equal. Admitted for investigation and further care.

Awesome to bump in to my HEMS buddy @philmoss1
It's more than 22 years since we flew together and what I don't understand is how neither of us has aged a bit!
Heading home over next couple of days with @UK_ISAR_TEAM from #Malawi. Incredible experience, friendly people, beautiful country. Our team was only 27 strong (3 boats) but evacuated 358 people 6km by boat, delivered 5 tonnes of maize and made several complex rescues. @FCDOGovUK
With no other choice, this is drinking water. This is not drinking water. #Malawi #CycloneFreddy #preventingcholera @UK_ISAR_TEAM @FCDOGovUK
Joint mission, @UK_ISAR_TEAM & @WFP boat to locate and rescue 80 yr old lady with open femoral fracture,
