Did you notice the elegant woman in red sitting in the tamari-seki seats on senshuraku? She's "Mrs. Devi"--or Dewi Sukarno the (Japanese-born) 84-year-old widow of the former president of Indonesia, Sukarno. For decades, Dewi Sukarno was, without contest, one of the world's most glamorous and controversial celebrities who, after her husband's government was overthrown and his subsequent death in 1970, lived in different countries including three years in Switzerland, 10 years in France, and another decade in the United States. She returned to Japan in 2008 and lives in Shibuya, Tokyo. Asked by reporters who she predicted would win the May tournament, Mrs. Sukarno replied, "I've been rooting for the Sadogatake stable for about thirty-five years, so it will be Kotozakura."
